leg over his hip, giving him easier access to making love to her. As he embraced her petite frame, he wondered at his level of emotion and connection to her. His hips and sexual wanting took over, thrusting inside her. He felt Allie’s teeth biting the skin of his neck as they made love. Slowly, they reached another completion, moaning and gripping each other as they both tumbled over the precipice of desire and completion. Their worlds collided in bright, fiery sparkles as they came together.
The next morning, Allie ate breakfast, feeling starved. As she ate, she asked Emilio about her heritage as a fire faery.
“Just what kinds of powers do we have? I mean, what can we do? What does this heat do to those who attack us? And why did your powers leave last night when we . . . when we . . .”
“Made love? It’s a defense and safety mechanism. If I were to still have the ability to move through impenetrable surfaces, holding you . . . well, I think you could see what might happen,” Emilio said.
“You mean, you’d move us through the mattress? Well, yeah, I can see that. So, when we’re like we are now, just talking, you can move through hard surfaces?”
With that, Emilio demonstrated the return of his ability by moving from the bedroom through the wall and into the bathroom. Then, he walked back through the doorway and sat down next to Allie on the bed. “I’m able to protect you with my penetration ability – uh, through walls, that is,” Emilio said hastily.
Allie giggled as she caught his unintended double entendre. She finished her breakfast, finally feeling satisfied. As she finished her coffee, Emilio stood.
“We’d better do some practicing. You need to learn how to use and control your powers before we leave. We’re sure to face more attacks before we get to the Palace. Come on, stand up. I’ll take you through several exercises and, when I know you’re comfortable with what you can do, we’ll leave. We should arrive, either late tonight or sometime tomorrow – depending on how many times we’re attacked.”
“So you expect us to be attacked, is that right?”
“Oh, yes! It’s always better to be prepared and not have it happen.”
The pair practiced, with Emilio throwing objects at Allie. As they approached her, the chain around her neck heated up and the objects either melted or were deflected from her by the heat surrounding her. Emilio, himself, approached her, taking a threatening stance. As with the tossed objects, Allie’s chain heated up, forcing Emilio back. Finally, after several hours, he was satisfied that she had learned to control her powers and how the magic chain enabled her to focus them. They packed and checked out. Inside an empty hallway, Emilio gripped Allie’s hand firmly and they vanished in a puff of silvery smoke.

Chapter 6
As Emilio had predicted, the pair faced several more attacks from representatives of other magical populations who feared the addition of Allie’s powers to the faerie population. As they were transporting from one stopping point on their journey, several attackers materialized out of thin air, surrounding both Allie and Emilio. Two rivals attempted to separate Allie from Emilio so they could isolate and fight her.
Emilio had prepared by putting a special charm on the physical bond between him and Allie. After Allie had gripped his arm and shoulder, he had gazed at her hand on his arm. As he did so, their physical contact was magically converted so they could not be separated.
Allie looked at him as he performed the charm. She wondered what he was doing and, after he had completed the charm, he explained what he had done.
“Attackers will come at us unexpectedly and from every direction. They’re going to try to separate us so they can isolate you and attack you. I just made our connection unbreakable so they can’t pull us apart.”
“But, won’t my chain heating up hurt you? Isn’t it better for you if we’re able to
