woman.
Grabbing Chavali’s wrists in his large hands, Aaron hauled her to her feet.
“ Aaron, please!” Without breaking eye contact with her, Chavali felt him soften as Amira touched his arm. The vampire had affection for the human.
“ What an intriguing triangle standing before me, Reynell.” Chavali regretted the statement the second it left her mouth.
“ Dragan, take Amira back to your room. I need to take care of some business. We will speak more in the morning.”
Dragan looked at his brother, nodding as he steered Amira towards the door.
Amira’s voice went low. Something was not right with any of them. “What is he going to do to her?”
Pressing his finger to her lips, he shook his head while closing the door behind them.
The second the latch clicked shut, Aaron shook Chavali hard, almost knocking her back down onto the couch. “Don’t you ever read her again—do you understand me?”
Aaron did not step away until he saw Chavali nod in agreement. Amira was off limits. She understood completely.
Walking over to the bed, Aaron picked up the rope his brother brought. He was done for today and too tired to continue this conversation tonight. If he did not get sleep, he knew he would kill her right on the spot. Gesturing, he pointed to another door in his room.
“ Through there.”
Opening the door, Chavali was surprised to find herself in another bedroom. This room was a smaller version of her captor’s, but no less opulent. There was another small fireplace on the far wall, surrounded by several chairs and a table. The bed was piled high with pillows and a vintage coverlet. It was perfection and in any other situation, she could have stayed in there for days without tiring of the space.
“ Make yourself comfortable on the bed. We both need our rest and are going to have to finish this conversation in a couple of hours.”
Efficiently making knots in the thick rope, he bound her ankles and wrists before tying her hands to the bed. She did not put up a fight as he expected and watched his expression carefully.
She wanted to laugh, thinking how useless the ropes were on a witch. Relieved, she also realized that Aaron was considerate enough to give her room to turn, move, and possibly sleep. Another sign of compassion, which she saw as flawed weakness.
Finished securing her, Aaron covered her with the blankets before sitting down on the edge of the bed. The pulse beating quickly in her neck gave him great satisfaction, thinking that she was terrified of him. Brushing the thick curls off her face, he ran his fingers down her cheek to her neck, as her eyes widened with the touch. His face was set and angry. Sliding his hand through her thick hair, he made a fist, pulling it tightly against her scalp.
Chavali cried out in pain, and then fear as she watched his fangs drop, realizing too late that she had not expected him to feed from her. She was mentally unprepared. She could have handled just about anything—but that.
“ Please, no!”
Ignoring her pleas, his free hand covered her mouth, muffling her scream as his head dropped, driving his teeth into her jugular. Her body bucked under him, and his killer instinct thrived on the movement. Aaron felt a rush of desire as her warm blood filled his mouth. Sucking hard, he drank heavily, knowing he was taking more than he should, but he wanted her lucid. After several minutes, the sound of her moaning filled the air. Pulling away, he stared down at her.
There was an imperceptible shift to the energy in the room. Her lips, now opened slightly, caused an overwhelming urge to rush through him. He wanted to kiss their softness. Shaking his head as he rose, Aaron shoved the feeling aside, knowing that it was the beast in him that wanted to ravage her, but not the side he spent years trying to keep human. Hate filled his eyes.
She was nothing to him. She was someone who would kill those he cherished without any thought or feeling. He watched as the
