may be hard to believe, but when Todd and I talked your name rarely came up.”
He touched his heart and acted like he was in pain. “I am crushed; you never asked about me?”
“Uh…no, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not now interested in hearing about this girlfriend you have.”
“There’s not much to tell and it’s a girlfriend I HAD.”
“Oh; did she learn how you really are?”
He looked down at his coffee cup and laughed. She wasn’t going to let that go. “Something like that.”
“I thought you were living together.”
He looked up at her and started to smile. “So, Todd didn’t tell you anything?”
“Okay; maybe he might have mentioned that some girl was moving in with you, but that’s it. Is this the girl?”
He nodded. “Yeah; I told her she could stay at my place until she found some place to go.”
“Won’t that be awkward?”
“That’s where your brother came into play. I was going to ask him if I could stay here for a couple of days. However, I now see that that’s not an option.”
She looked away and he wondered if she would ever consider sharing the place. Todd was rarely ever home, but there was no way he would have ever made the suggestion. “Yeah; that’s not happening.” She answered the question as if she was reading his mind. He shrugged; it was a thought that she would never know he had in his mind. He would figure something else out.

Abigail walked Travis to the door and she smiled. “I have to admit, it was nice talking to you.”
“This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” He laughed.
“Don’t press your luck.”
“Thanks for the coffee.” She waved as he left. When she closed the door she looked at her watch; they had visited for nearly two hours. She was in shock that she could manage talking to him that long, but their time talking seemed genuine She headed up the stairs. She was going to make her bed and head to her parent’s house.
When she reached the top of the steps she paused and looked down the hallway. She had her room she was using, Todd had his room, and there were still 3 rooms that were unused. She couldn’t believe she was even considering it; she would never have imagined being okay living in the same place as Travis. It was true; it was only for a matter of days. It wasn’t like they would be in the same room. She would do her thing and he would do his. She made a choice she would talk to Todd, but if Travis needed a place to stay it wouldn’t kill her to help him out. As long as they had their ground rules and there would be plenty of those

Travis couldn’t believe when he got the call from Todd. He was asked to stop back at the house and they could discuss the living arrangements. He nearly drove off the road when he realized that it was Abigail’s idea. Now as he was pulling into the driveway, he wondered if she was only trying to appease her brother. Worse yet, he hoped that she wasn’t planning on pulling a prank on him. Act like she was onboard and then rip the room out from under him. It would have served him right; especially all the times he kidded around with her. He knocked on the door and it was Abigail that was the one to answer.
“Hello;” he quietly spoke as she backed up for him to enter. “Abigail, are you sure that you really want this?”
She looked over to where Todd was standing and talking on the phone. “I know that it must seem strange; believe me, it wasn’t what I was expecting. However, I surveyed the arrangements and we could be on opposite ends of the hallway. That makes me feel better.”
He laughed. “So, you’re thinking that we wouldn’t even need to see each other?”
“I suppose so, but that’s not to say that today didn’t shock me.”
“Yeah; we actually made a couple of hours without raising our voices.”
“Maybe we could set a record.”
“What
