yelled. Cynthia grabbed the phone and dialed 911.
“If you are not out in two seconds I will call the cops,” she said as Rochelle walked to the front door and swung it open. On the other side of the door, Taylor looked a bit confused at what he was looking at. There was Cynthia, holding the phone threateningly, not sure whether she wanted to throw it at someone or make a call. There was Rochelle, who had opened the door looking angrier than usual. There was Desiree, who looked a bit shaken up, and there was his girlfriend’s ex, who had a guilty look.
“Hey guys. Am I too early or…?” His voice trailed off as he looked at everyone inside. He was still not sure whether the door had been open for him or if he had just walked into an ugly situation.
“Hey Taylor. You are just in time,” Rochelle said.
“For what?” he asked, looking at Rochelle.
“To throw Dee’s stupid ex out,” Rochelle said angrily without batting an eyelid. At that moment, Desiree and Leon knew that the worst was yet to come.
Chapter 3
Unfortunately, dinner did not turn out the way Desiree had hoped. The whole ex-boyfriend turning up and trying to kiss her really freaked her out, not to mention pissing off the current boyfriend. Taylor and Leon had gotten into quite a heated argument before Taylor roughed Leon out of the apartment. Desiree was still shaken up about the whole thing. She had known Leon for a very long time, but she could have never thought that he was capable of such animosity. She was dumbfounded the entire time Leon and Taylor were arguing. All she could do was just stand there and look at them. It was almost as if she was having an out of body experience. She could not move from where she was and she could not talk, either. But she was fully aware of everything else that was happening. The way Leon looked at her, wanting to take her in his arms and just get them out of there. The way Taylor was angry as he talked. The way Cynthia and Rochelle seemed to cheer Taylor on….everything was happening too fast and all she managed to do was just watch as everything unfolded.
“He was forcing himself on her!”
“We walked in just in time.”
“Who knows what would have happened?”
“She is still traumatized. Look at her.”
Desiree felt a tear roll down her cheek as she watched Taylor punch Leon before he finally threw him out. She broke down into hysterical sobs just as Taylor walked up to her and took her in his arms.
“It’s okay. I’m here now,” he said as he held her close. “I’ll always be here for you,” he said again as he stroked her hair. Cynthia and Rochelle looked at them before they walked up to where the two were standing.
“We should never have left,” Cynthia said sounding guilty.
“Yeah, we should have stayed here. He would have never tried anything if we were still here,” Rochelle said as she patted her sister’s back.
“I’ll take her to her room,” Taylor said as he pulled away from Desiree.
“But I cooked and dinner…” Desiree started to say.
“That’s what microwaves are for, honey. Go on. We’ll be okay,” Cynthia said, interrupting Desiree. Taylor smiled and draped an arm around Desiree.
“Come on,” he said as he led her down the hallway. Desiree had to admit, there was something about Taylor being there that made her feel safe. She rested her head on her shoulder as they walked. “Oh shit,” Taylor said as they stopped. “This is so embarrassing,” he said, laughing nervously. Desiree looked up at him.
“What is?” she asked as she wiped her cheeks with the palms of her hands.
“I have never been in your room so I have no idea which of these doors lead to your room,” he said looking at her. Desiree laughed as she looked at him. All sleepovers had been at his place. The one time he had been to her place was when Rochelle had walked in on the two of them right in the middle of their lovemaking.
“Well, lucky door number one is your best bet,”
