local cobbler. I hear she’s pretty young. Just
finished her apprenticeship and recently set up a tiny repair shop
here in town. I’m eager to see how good she fixes shoes. I have a
couple of pairs I just can’t seem to toss out. If she can breathe
life into them, I will be so freaking happy.”
“ Far be it for us to get between a lady and her shoes,” Carson
chuckled.
“ I’ll be back to the club in about an hour. Let me know really
quick if you want your name on that list for Saturday night. There
are only a few openings left and they go quickly. If you put your
names on the list, I’ll be sure to let Jewel know about
it.”
She
winked at them and rolled up her window.
“ Yeah later, Jax,” Carson mumbled.
She
started her car, waved and pulled out of the parking space. A
moment later, she was gone.
“ I am as hard as a spike over this latest news on Jewel,”
Carson complained as they strolled out of the parking lot and onto
the main street.
“ Yeah, well join the club.” Adam replied. His heart thumped a
mile a minute as Jewel’s delicious scent wafted around
him.
“ I wonder how the guy burned her?” Carson asked.
“ I’d like to kill the jerk,” Adam grumbled. “And kick your ass
for asking Jaxie why Jewel wears a ring if she’s not
married.”
“ We’re attracted to her. Jaxie knows her and Jaxie’s a match
maker. It was a no-brainer that she’d see something was going on.
Especially in the way you kept staring at her the other night and just
earlier in the restaurant.”
“ And you weren’t? What about our agreement? Never to allow
Jaxie to fix us up? You know her track record. Everyone we know who
she got together is still together.” And damned happy
too.
Carson
grinned with a smugness that irritated him.
“ That agreement went out the window the minute you came up with
the idea of rescuing Jewel with your jacket and then loaning it to
her. And, if I might add, it was your idea about dropping in on
their business meeting today. So lighten up, my man, and enjoy. I’m
thinking we give Jaxie that call.”
Adam
wanted to say no. Hell, he should say no. The last thing he needed
was to get into a serious relationship and a ménage one at that.
He’d just wanted to come to town to get a break from being on the
road and get some hot and heavy no-strings sex. But the instant
he’d seen Jewel dashing through the rain, a wicked spear of lust
had gripped him and hadn’t let go.
Oh, who
was he kidding? His earlier intense reaction that she’d been burned
by her ex made him realize it was already more than lust. He was
now invested in not hurting her in any way. There would be no such
thing as no-strings sex or no-strings anything else with
her.
He
nodded. Yes, he wanted to see Jewel again. Like
yesterday.
Chapter Three
Carson
wanted to curse Adam for loaning Jewel his leather jacket. Her
delicate scent was all over it. Now her intriguing aroma permeated
the air in the sleep quarters of their rig too. He tried to
concentrate on gazing out the tiny window and watching the moon as
it hung high over the towering snow-capped Rocky mountains that
embraced this town, but the strength of his reaction at her scent
kept him thinking about how much he wanted to fuck her and how much
he needed some release.
They had
two beds in the small rear compartment of the truck, but only
curtains and a narrow aisle separated him from Adam. Sometimes,
they masturbated in the rig, usually deep in the night when they
thought the other was asleep. But in the morning, they would kid
each other about the interesting noises they’d heard the night
before.
Tonight
though, he wanted to be on his own with his thoughts about Jewel.
He listened until Adam’s breathing slowed and became restful, and
then he quietly left his bed. They’d parked toward the back of the
large truck stop parking lot. It was quieter here and it bordered
upon a secluded picnic area. That’s where he headed.
He
inhaled the
