use that line. I’ll just leave it at, Ms. Laci will be Mrs. Carter in due time.
Chapter 3: Lacianne
Two days passed by and I haven’t heard anything from Bryce. Since he was so adamant about me being his lawyer, I presumed he would be marching into my office the next day, demanding that I keep the cash I sent back to him. That obviously wasn’t the case. He never showed up at my office or called. I felt a little hurt by the situation. I wasn’t sure why, but Bryce consumed my thoughts so often. After the sweet, gentle kiss he gave me, I ran out of the restaurant, not even bothering to order my food.
The way he talked to me and handled me was intriguing. His approach wasn’t like most dudes. Yes, he was rude and cocky, but it didn’t make me want to slap him. The way he talked to me had me ready to call him daddy and ask what he wanted for breakfast. However, that was just silly thinking because the two of us would never work. I could tell from his demeanor that we came from two different worlds. Let’s not mention that he needed a criminal lawyer on his team. There was no way in the world I was going to date a criminal. My little fantasies would just have to do because Gunz was off limits.
The work day came and went pretty fast, and I couldn’t be happier. My days started to blend together and I began to feel as if I was losing my mind. Being a criminal defense attorney was a lot of work. It wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle; I just had to get use to the process. I gathered all of my case files that needed reviewing over the weekend and headed down to my car. I threw my briefcase, along with the rest of my things on the backseat, and jumped in my car. I sat there for a second, trying to get my car to warm up. Even though I was a winter baby, I couldn’t stand the cold. Spring and fall were more so my seasons. I drove home in silence as I did after every work day. The silence always helped my mind to unwind. I lived alone, but as soon as I stepped foot in the house, it was right back to work. My whole life consisted of nothing but work. I couldn’t complain because work was the reason I was able to afford a beautiful two family home in New Springville located in Staten Island. I loved my house. I upgraded the whole house after a year of owning it. Hardwood floors, Pella windows, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances decorated my home. The house had four bedrooms and three bathrooms, which was more than I needed. Nazi had her own room because when she came up from college, she would stay with me instead of our parents. The other two rooms were supposed to be guest rooms, but they were really for show because I didn’t allow anyone besides my family in my home. My home was my sanctuary, and I liked to keep it that way.
I parked my car in the driveway and headed for my front door. The case files I had in my backseat would have to stay there because this Friday night was going to be spent unwinding and soaking in a hot bubble bath. Walking inside, I kicked my shoes off at the front door and went straight for the kitchen. I pulled out a glass and a bottle of wine, ready to get my calm evening started.
As I poured my glass, I noticed a huge bouquet of ocean breeze orchids. Now upon seeing them, a couple of thoughts ran across my mind. The first was how did they get into my house and who were they from. I was grateful for them because they honestly were my favorite flower. The fact that they were in a cute purple vase with my name engraved on it made it all the more special. I walked over to them, guessing my mother or father sent them as an early birthday gift.
I smelled the flowers, loving the scent, before looking for a card. I grabbed the card from in the middle of the bouquet.
Laci,
I see that you’re a difficult one, but a challenge isn’t something that I back down from. Orchids symbolize perfection & beauty. So imagine my surprise when your favorite flower is the ocean breeze orchid. I
