for...for... storing peanuts.â
âWhat are you talking about?â Joe said.
âOr storing raisins and chocolate chips. I can store them in my dimples and have them later for snack. Want me to store some for you?â
âThat is gross,â said Joe. âI wouldnât touch a chocolate chip youâd stored in your sweaty cheek.â
âThe sweat gives them extra flavor,â I said.
âEveryone knows the best-tasting peanuts and chips have a little sweat on them,â said Stewart.
âYou two are crazy,â Joe said.
âYou donât have to believe me or Stewart,â I said, smiling again. âBut itâs a known fact.â
Stewart threw me a ball, and I caught it.
âDidnât you hear me?â Joeâs voice rose higher and higher. âYouâre dumb. Stupid. Crazy. An idiot with two holes.â
âSure, I heard you,â I said. I laughed. âYouâre loud.â
âYouâre nuts,â said Joe. âYou should get your head examined.â
âIâve had my head examined. Itâs in great shape,â I said.
âLetâs get away from these two crazy dumb-heads,â Joe said to Andrew.
And then, like a bad smell, they were gone.
Billy and Howie ran over.
âThat was great, Lawrence,â they said. âYou really got Joe.â
I smiled. âWant to play catch?â I asked them.
âSure.â
We played. And it was amazing. The balls sank into my hand as if a magnet pulled them there. I could catch anything: fly balls, grounders, curve balls, balls shot from a rocket!
With each catch, my smile grew wider.
âYouâre good, Dimple Boy,â said Stewart, patting me on the back.
âYou too, Toothpick!â
