purchase from her establishment.
âSold,â I said with a smile.
âFantastic. I canât wait to show you what we have. Iâve been working hard to get more curvy pieces of clothing into my store. I want to be an equal opportunity merchant. When I first opened this place, the only thing I could wear was the jewelry and the shoes.â
âSo you are not only the manager, you are the owner as well?â I asked in amazement.
âYes, I opened this boutique five years ago. Iâm happy itâs done as well as it has, especially in this economy.â
âPlease donât take this the wrong way, but you donât look old enough to own this store, much less manage it.â
âIâm going to take that as a compliment. Would you believe Iâm thirty-seven?â
âNo, I thought you were in your early twenties.â
âThank you. I try very hard to take care of myself.â
âYouâve done an amazing job.â
Once we were in the back I saw many pieces in my size that I absolutely loved. When she said she was trying to get more curvy pieces in her boutique, she wasnât lying. The first thing that caught my eye was this metallic knit sheath dress with a side knot at the waist.
âThis dress is absolutely gorgeous,â I said holding the item up.
âIsnât it sophisticated? And guess what?â
âWhat?â
âWe have a matching jumpsuit.â
I loved the jumpsuit more than the dress.
âBoth of these are beautiful. What would make them look even better is a pair of metallic strappy heels.â
âI could tell by what you are wearing today you have a nice sense of style.â
âI love fashion.â
âIt shows. Is that what your career is in?â
âUnfortunately, no. Iâm looking for a job right now since Iâm new to the area.â
âWhere are you from?â
âIâm from Virginia.â
âWell, welcome to North Carolina.â
âThanks.â
âYou know, I can sweeten this deal even more for you,â Julia said, looking at me sincerely.
âHow?â
âWould you like to work for me?â
Was this woman serious? I came in here to find something to wear to my dinner with Sheldon tonight only to file a complaint on her uppity aunt no less, and here she was offering me a job. Look at God.
âReally?â
âIâm serious. I can tell you would be a fabulous asset for my business. You dress amazingly. You are curvy just like me, and we need more of that around here. And who knows, maybe youâll be the one to help me launch my plus-size clothing boutique Iâve been thinking about opening.â
I looked at her in amazement, not being able to say anything.
âI am not a person whoâs at a loss for words often.â
âThink about it. Hereâs my card. Call me once you mull it over.â
I took her card, still speechless at how this all went down. I knew in this moment this was not happenstance. This was God.
âNow that we got that out of the way,â Julia said, âletâs see what else we can find for you to purchase.â

Jumping to the workout DVD, I came to the conclusion it was kicking my ass. I knew thatâs what it was supposed to be doing, but damn . . . I was already sweating like a whore in church, and I had only been working out for ten minutes of this thirty-minute video. My lavender workout top had dark purple circles beneath my armpits. I thought by the fourth day of doing this, it would have gotten a lot easier, but it hadnât. I was worn out, and I had just got started. I marched in place awaiting the next move from the man on the 52-inch flat panel when my husband walked into the living room.
âHey, baby,â I spoke, panting and reaching to the ceiling. Right then left. Then right, then left, going to the beat of the music they were playing. I noticed Devin never
