refusing to do so, tried in vain to keep Lauren from bursting into the house and making a scene.
“Tell everyone Pete. Tell them how you touched me and licked me.” Lauren’s words were slurred. Pete managed to get her into the kitchen. Veronica followed wanting to know what Lauren was mumbling about. Pete knew he had to come clean.
He took Veronica to one end of the kitchen, as Lauren stood at the other side. Pete explained to Veronica exactly what happened. He spared no details. He took full blame for his actions. “I’m so sorry Veronica. Please forgive me. I love only you.”
Veronica couldn’t believe what she just heard. She was devastated. “Get her out of here. Get everyone out. NOW.” Pete cleared the house, explaining to the bewildered guests that Veronica wasn’t feeling well and that the party was over. After they all left, Lauren included after an altercation, Veronica faced Pete.
“The engagement is off,” Veronica spat. Pete begged her to get past what happened but Veronica was too upset to be persuaded. She was inconsolable. Suddenly, Pete collapsed and he lost consciousness. Veronica panicked but came to her senses and called 911. The ambulance arrived but it was too late. They found Veronica crying over Pete’s lifeless body, hysterically shouting out that she still loved him.
The following weeks were a blur. The funeral, being questioned by police and by his parents who blamed her, and having to deal with the guilt that he died thinking she no longer loved him. It was a nightmare that would only worsen.
Eric, a ruggedly handsome man with piercing eyes, interrogated her incessantly. As the police detective in charge of the case, he was constantly showing up. At first, he treated her like he would any other prime suspect. His demeanor changed as their visits started taking on a more personal tone. He had never crossed the line before but Eric trusted his instincts. As a veteran detective, he had a good sense about people. He felt Veronica was innocent but he couldn’t prove it.
The evidence was circumstantial but pretty overwhelming. The lab findings were that Pete died from ingesting a huge dose of rat poison. Further, the police search of Veronica’s house and subsequent tests, showed rat poison was present in the coffee she bought for Pete to drink when he came over to see her.
The evidence pointed to Veronica. Her coffee, her rat poison as she admitted that she had purchased it due to a recent infestation in her area, means, motive and opportunity, all were present. A jury of her peers convicted Veronica of murder. She was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment amidst cheers and tears from his parents, who were convinced of her guilt. Maeve cried as well.
Eric couldn’t forget the beautiful woman that was locked away with hardened criminals. And had locked up his heart. He visited her every chance he got. He told her he would never give up on clearing her. A year passed before Veronica’s defenses broke down and she admitted, even to herself, that she loved Eric.
Eric had connections so he was able to arrange some special time alone with Veronica. They explored each other sexually during those private sessions, in a room usually reserved for lawyers to meet with their clients. Veronica confided in Eric about her swapping adventures with Pete. Eric was more than willing to try it out, at least with a second woman. Another man getting to touch and be inside Veronica that took more convincing.
There was an inmate, Julie, who had befriended Veronica. She had killed her husband, an abusive alcoholic, with a sharp instrument. It was self-defense to her but not to the jury. A pretty woman, petite, she was a brunette with short cute wavy hair.
Eric was introduced to Julie on one visiting day, which Veronica did with a purpose in mind; Eric admitted he was attracted. When Veronica asked Julie about a threesome with Eric, Julie didn’t need to be persuaded. Julie was bisexual, and the chance
