furrowed, her mouth is tight, and she’s holding herself rigid.
“What’s up? You seem tense.”
At first she doesn’t say anything. She just keeps opening and closing her mouth. I sit and wait patiently for her to get out whatever she needs to. I never expected us to become as close as we are, but she’s my best friend. I’d do anything for her.
Jill lets out a breath. “My brother called as I was getting ready to leave. His best friend, Nico, is going to be there. We-We have a h-history that my brother doesn’t know about.”
“Why haven’t you told me about him before? Have I met him?” I’m floored by her confession. Jill has always been very quiet and sweet. She never seemed the type to be secretive, but maybe this is a part of herself she kept private.
She shakes her head at me. “No, you haven’t met him. Just please don’t let on that you know anything, okay?”
Jill says it with such conviction I can’t help but agree.
Ten minutes later, we drive through a neighborhood with huge, expensive homes. There aren’t many because there is a lot of open land. It’s beautiful. I’ve never seen anything nicer.
We pull into a winding driveway and park next to a black Camaro. I’m guessing it’s Nico’s car. Both of us climb out and grab our bags.
We’re almost up the steps when someone opens the front door. When I get a look at the man holding open the door, I freeze.
Chapter Three
Jasmine
Oh my God! What am I going to do? It’s the guy who made me come in the middle of that nightclub the other night. I try to keep my face hidden as he greets Jill with a big hug. I can see in his soft eyes how much he loves his sister. They speak too softly for me to hear them, but whatever they’re talking about has Jill’s brother smiling down at her. This goes on for a minute before his gaze finds me and, in that instant, I know he recognizes me. His face doesn’t show surprise, but his eyes are filled with heat.
I squirm under his stare as it holds me immobile. I’m vaguely aware of Jill coming down to me and grabbing my arm. “Gabe, this is who I’ve told you about. Jasmine, this is my big brother, Gabe. Gabe, this is Jasmine.”
I don’t want Jill to find out what happened, so I stick out my hand.
“It’s nice to meet you, Gabe.”
He grabs my hand and heat travels up my arm. Instead of shaking it, he pulls me toward him and slowly kisses my cheek. I swear he sniffs me before he pulls away, but I’m probably just imagining it.
“You too, Jasmine.” The way he says my name causes my pussy to throb. Stupid pussy . Embarrassment floods my cheeks and I hope neither one of them notices. Do I get my way? Of course not, because Gabe looks at me with a knowing smile and I’m disgusted with myself. I’ve never let a man have control over me with a single action. I don’t know why I’m reacting this way.
We follow him into the house. The place is absolutely gorgeous. The look is a lot homier than I’d expect for a bachelor pad. The floors are a beautiful dark wood. The foyer is empty except for a beautiful full-length mirror. We follow him around the corner and enter a huge living room with taupe colored couches and an oversized chair. The fireplace is lined with beautiful marble tile. I can just imagine how wonderful that would be in the winter. There isn’t a TV, which surprises me.
We follow him to the dining room and then the kitchen. With its huge stainless steel appliances and a big island in the middle, it’s a woman’s dream. Someone opens the sliding door in the kitchen and in walks a man almost as good-looking as Gabe.
This must be Nico. Jill mutters a hello and Nico responds in another language. It sounds like Italian and he doesn’t sound happy. I feel eyes on me and turn my head to find Gabe staring at me intently. Goose bumps erupt all over my skin. He’s wearing a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off and a pair of swim trunks. The
