charm without glue?â
âI donât know,â admitted Lumiere. âWe will have to think of a way.â
âThink, think, think,â Chip said to himself as he hopped around the study. He spotted a roll of stamps on the desk. âStamps are sticky on the back!â he exclaimed.
âBut only on the back,â Lumiere pointed out. âI think the star charm should have gold on both sides. Donât you?â
Chip nodded. âThink, think, think,â he said again. âLook! There is a bottle of ink in this drawer! Ink is sticky!â
âBut ink is black,â Lumiere said. âIf the gold flakes get covered with black ink, the star will not sparkle and shine.â
Chip knew that Lumiere was right, but he wasnât about to give up. Even so, as he searched the study, Chip had trouble finding something that they could use to make the charm. A feather pen, a stack of books, a pair of reading glasses, a lamp? None of these would work.
âWait a minute,â Chip suddenly said. He hopped over to the lamp and peeked at the waxy candle under its colorful glass shade. âI know what we can use!â
âWhat?â Lumiere asked excitedly.
âWax!â Chip replied. He bounded over to the supply closet in the corner, where cakes of yellow beeswax were stacked on a shelf.
âYou are a genius!â Lumiere cried. âWax is just what we need to make this charm!â He pinched off a small piece of wax and gently heated it with his candles.
âMmm,â Chip said, breathing in deeply. âIt smells like honey!â
When the wax was warm, Lumiere molded it into the shape of a star. Then he and Chip dusted the star with gold flakes. As the wax cooled, the gold stuck firmly to the charm.
Lumiere held the star charm up to the light. âLook how it gleams!â he said proudly. âThis is just what I wanted to make for Belle. Thank you, Chip! You are an artist!â
Chip grinned at him. âI like to help,â he said. âDo you think anyone else needs me?â
âYou should check with Cogsworth,â Lumiere replied. âI am sure that that overgrown pocket watch could use a hand!â
âDonât worry, Cogsworth,â Chip yelled. He jumped onto the tea cart. âHere I come!â
C hip zoomed up and down the halls of the castle, loudly calling for Cogsworth. Finally, he heard a familiar voice reply, âIâm in here! Come in, come in!â
Chip followed the voice to the greenhouse. Rows and rows of exotic plants filled the room.
âHi, Cogsworth,â Chip said. âLumiere told me that you might need help making your charm for Belleâs bracelet.â
The clock hands on Cogsworthâs face started to twitch. âThat old wax-head!â he sniffed. âWhat does he know about it?â
Chip shrugged. âI donât know,â he replied. âBut I helped him make his charm, so I thought maybe I could help you, too.â
âOh, well, in that case,â Cogsworth said quickly. âI suppose I could use a little help.â
He stepped aside to show Chip a long line of leaves that heâd made out of jewels. âI came into the greenhouse for inspiration,â Cogsworth explained. âAnd Iâve certainly been inspiredâ¦to make every plant except a sprig of holly! Look at all of these leaves! This one even has an acorn made out of rubies!â
âBut youâre supposed to make some holly ,â Chip reminded him. âJust like the charm on Belleâs other bracelet.â
âI know,â Cogsworth said, sighing. âBut there isnât any holly in here! And when I see other leaves, I forget what holly looks likeâand make a different leaf instead!â
âThereâs a big holly bush outside, next to the fountain. I can get some holly for you,â Chip said.
âSplendid idea!â Cogsworth cried.
Chip zoomed toward the large
