they made their way onto the dance floor, the DJ switched to a slow love ballad. Will pulled Mia into his arms, and they began to sway to the music.
“You know, even though logically speaking, I am sure I made the right choice, most days I wish I had said yes,” Mia murmured into his ear. She wasn’t quite brave enough to look him in the face.
“So do I.”
Mia pulled back slightly to look him in the eyes. When she did, she could see he meant it.
“But yesterday,” she stammered. “When I first saw you, my heart stopped. You seemed like you did not even recognize me.”
“I was going crazy,” he confessed. “I was just forcing myself to stay calm and not react because I knew if I lost control for even a second I was going to pull you into my arms and try to make you regret ever saying no. When I saw the way you were flirting with that groomsman, I almost lost it.”
“Flirting?” she laughed. “Will, Zack is gay. We’re old friends, and I just thought talking to him might distract me from you.”
“But your hands were all over him,” protested Will.
“You know me – I get handsy when I’m drunk,” she reminded him. “You saw the embarrassment I made of myself last night.”
“Embarrassment?” he asked. He sounded slightly offended, which was just what she wanted to hear.
“Of course,” she said, trying to keep her voice light. “You have your rule – don’t sleep with drunks, and I have mine – don’t try to sleep with guys who clearly have no interest in sleeping with you.”
“You think I don’t want to sleep with you?” he asked.
“Well, I think you made that pretty clear last night,” she said. “It’s all right. I’m not offended. I know I don’t have the body I did when I was seventeen.”
“Now that’s just ridiculous. You are so much sexier than you were then. We were just kids. Now you’re a woman with real curves and everything. Trust me, you’re gorgeous. If Emily’s great Aunt Dorothy weren’t watching us, I would already be tearing your clothes off.”
“Really?” she asked softly. “Do you mean that?”
“So is this what we’re doing now? Playing games, being coy?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. She could tell he was amused.
“Hey – what can I say?” she shrugged. “I was feeling nostalgic. Want to ditch the party, go back to my room, and have sex?”
“Absolutely.”
Chapter 8
This time when Will kissed her, it was soft and gentle. There was no need to rush. They had all night. He held her close, and she melted into his arms. Gently, he kissed her eyelids, her cheeks, her neck, and finally her lips.
She sighed with pleasure, exploring the hard muscles of his back with her fingertips. She felt him reach around her and slowly unzip her dress. The pressure of his body against hers held it to her until he took a step away. She felt her dress slide down her body and onto the floor. She held his hand for balance as she stepped out of it.
“You are so incredibly beautiful,” he said, his eyes roaming over her body. When he had looked his fill, he pulled her back into his arms to kiss her once more.
As he kissed her, she began to pull his shirt out of his trousers. Then button by button, she slowly began removing it. Soon it had joined her dress on the floor. He yanked the white shirt he wore under it over his head. Once he was shirtless, he lifted her into his arms and carried her over to the bed. She laughed with glee when instead of setting her down gently, he tossed her onto the bed.
“I love you so much,” she told him as he stood beside the bed, admiring her while unbuckling his belt.
“I love you too.” Even if he hadn’t spoken, she would have known. His eyes said it all. In a moment, he was standing naked beside the bed. Will reached down and grabbed her by the waist. He pulled her to the edge of the bed so that he could reach around her to unhook her bra. Mia shivered slightly as
