his hand. âIâm SamanthaâSamantha Fox.â
âFox, hmmmâyes, you are, ma. Maybe we can have some lunch, get to know each other.â Xavier was quick with his game.
âPump your brakes, Romeo,â someone yelled from the back of the room. The entire class laughed.
âYes, Mr. Hunter,â Ms. Gorman butted in. âPlease try to contain yourself.â The teacher went into her desk and retrieved a thin book. âEverybody, can you please take outââshe held it up in full view of the classââShakespeareâs Hamlet .â Ms. Gorman said to Samantha, âLooks like we are short one play. I wonât be able to get another until tomorrow, so would you mind sharing with someone?â
Xavier saw his chance. âMs. Gorman, Iâd like to volunteer my play.â
âRespectfullyâXavier is it?â Samantha asked in a serious tone. âMy father taught me never to accept anything from bad boys.â
âOoooh,â a few of the male students instigated.
âOh, itâs like that?â Xavier asked, still slyly smiling. âDonât say that because most girls love us bad boys. This school ainât the most secure place in the city for a beautiful girl such as yourself to be walking around alone. You might need somebody like me to protect you.â
Samantha smiled flirtatiously and batted her long, thick eyelashes. âYour offer for bodyguard services is tempting, but thatâs why the school has security.â
The âoohsâ and âaahsâ started again.
Cheese butted in, âGirl, the jackers will be off with your goods before these security guards get off their butts to do something.â
Some of the students laughed at Cheeseâs sense of humor.
âItâs all good, Cheese,â Xavier said. He turned to Samantha. âSecurity, huh? Okay. But just keep in mind that my door is always open for you, gorgeous.â
Samantha blushed, smiling.
âExcuse me, Xavier,â Ms. Gorman said. âThis is not some mall where you can openly flirt. The only hook up that will be happening in my class is you hooking up with William Shakespeare. Now that youâve volunteered your play to Samantha, tell me how will you be keeping up with the rest of us?â
Xavier smiled confidently. âNo sweat. I read Hamlet this past summer. I donât need the book.â He tapped his finger on the side of his head. âGot it all up here.â
âThe only thing you got up there is a lot of fat,â Sally Peoples bitterly cut in, apparently still fuming from their earlier argument.
Xavier turned his back on Sallyâs comment. The girl was old news and he wasnât about to go there with her again.
âThat will be enough out of you, Ms. Peoples,â Ms. Gorman scolded. The teacher looked back in Xavierâs direction with an inquisitive expression on her face. âOkay, Mr. Hunter, Iâm going to ask you to sum up the play, in your own words.â
âOh, Ms. Gorman, youâre trying to play a brotha out. I got this.â Xavier flirtatiously smiled at Samantha. âPeep this. Prince Hamlet takes revenge on his uncle Claudius for murdering King Hamlet, Claudiusâs brother and Prince Hamletâs father. Claudius then takes the throne of Denmark by marrying the kingâs widow and Prince Hamletâs mother.â
âDonât let that steroid freak fool yâall,â Sally interrupted by snapping on Xavier. âAnybody with Internet access could log on to Wikipedia to print the summary.â
âSally, one more outburst out of you and Iâm going to send you to the principalâs office,â Ms. Gorman scolded. She then returned her attention to Xavier. âMr. Hunter, would you please be so kind as to tell us what method Claudius used in killing King Hamlet, and what does the third guard, Marcellus, report to Hamlet that he saw one
