then she turned back to me.
“Here you go dear, this should be enough.”
I looked down and saw the list and two twenties dollar bills. That was way too much money.
“Mom, this is too much money, the total won’t even be twenty dollars.”
“Put the rest towards gas. You’re always running around for me.”
    “Mom, you don’t need to…….”
“Wyatt, I won’t take no for an answer.”
“Okay, okay. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
Wyatt, dear, why don’t you take Kenna with you? I’m sure she doesn’t want to stand around, waiting for Carson. Well I guess she could always go out and visit with Jesse and Josh.
I just stared at my mother. I swear she knows something. She for sure knew which buttons to push with me.
I turned to Kenna and she had a panic look on her face.
“ Kenna , would you like to ride into town with me. You can help me pick up some things we need for the barbeque.”
    “If you’re sure Wyatt?”
“Of course I’m sure. You can keep me company on the drive.”
As Kenna and I turned and started towards the front door, I swear, I saw my mother wink at Jack. What was those two up too. Within moments, we were heading toward Butte. Both of us nervous and unsure what to say to each other.

Chapter 7

Wyatt and I rode in silence for the first ten minutes. Finally I couldn’t stand the silence any longer, I had to say something, but what? Think…think….think!
“Umm, Wyatt, are you as nervous as I am.”
He glanced at me out of the corner of his eye, took a deep breath and slowly answered.
“Yeah, I guess I am. I’m just not sure what to say or do around you now. I know that it’s silly, but I just don’t want to do or say the wrong thing. I feel more uncertain then a teenager out on his first date. I wasn’t this nervous in high school go out on my first date. There’s just too much at stake, I guess.”
“Well it’s never matter before, what you said or did. Why should it matter more now?”
“ Kenna , I know you have been through hell this last year and I don’t want to add to it by acting on my feeling for you before you’re ready. I care about you a lot and hurting you would kill me. Your happiness is what matters”
My response came out more like a whisper.
    “You have feelings for me?”
“Yes, I do. What you have always thought of was me being bossy, was really me being jealous. But I had convinced myself that because of Carson, I could never act on my feeling.”
“Really, I thought you saw me as a child, as nothing, but Carson’s baby sister. I’m sorry for the way I’ve been acting. I didn’t know.”
“Darlin, I think we are the only two in both of our families, that hadn’t figured out we had feeling for each other, which was a real shocker to me.”
    “Now what?”
“It’s up to you. I was making sure you were ready, before I went about seeing if we had what it takes to have a relationship. I didn’t want to rush you.”
We pulled up at the grocery store and Wyatt put the truck in park, than shut the engine off. He turned in his seat to face me. He took my right hand in his.
“I would really like to go out some time, but only if you’re ready.”
He brushed a stray strand of hair away from my face. I sat there frozen in shock over all the revelations of our emotions. I’ve had feelings for Wyatt for years. Could I get over the past year’s pain, to give Wyatt a chance at healing my broken heart? Hell yes, I could.
“I’m ready whenever you are, Wyatt. I want to go out with you and see if we have what it takes. The sooner we go out the sooner we’ll know if this is right.”
He gave me a huge smile, lifted my hand to his lips to give me the gentlest of kisses.
“ Kenna , would like to go to a barbeque with me today?”
He gave me a sweet bashful smile, it melted my heart.
    “I’d love too.”
“Thank you, darlin. I promise you’ll never regret this decision.”
He leaned forward and kissed my lips with a barely
