decided to walk away, after all, not him.
His mind echoed with memories of the past and hating her was never what he had intended. If he were truly honest with himself, he’d admit to her that he didn’t hate her now, but all he had the courage to do was nod in agreement and stare out the windshield.
A short time later, he pulled into his apartment parking lot. He exited the vehicle, and without looking back at her, he trudged his way toward his apartment on the third floor.
The community he called home was in Uptown Dallas. It was an elegant and lavish apartment building, a very significant contrast to the way he looked. Dominic saw himself as hard as steel and menacing, full of unspeakable danger. Strangely, he found that humorous, a big, powerful lycan living in a highly secured and patrolled neighborhood. He’d never get tired of the stares from his neighbors each time they saw him. Even though he’d lived there for years, people looked at him as if he planned to attack them.
He invoked fear with just a glance, and he enjoyed tormenting those who were too ignorant to know better or too scared to figure out who he really was.
Catching a glimpse of strawberry-red hair, his thoughts raced back to the woman he was about to be wedged deep inside. The tightness in his chest seemed to squeeze the breath right out of his lungs. Why couldn’t he just do what he had to do? Why couldn’t he be a real asshole to her and just get it over with?
Because even though you try and act like a dick, you’re not. Fuck! This conscience bullshit was starting to piss him off.
Grinding his teeth, he couldn’t do it, couldn’t just use her, even though he knew he should. When did he become such a softy? He took another step up the stairs and stopped, head craning up toward the sky. “Wait,” he groaned.
He turned to face her. Her bright green eyes were shining up at him, her lips slightly parted, lips he was dying to kiss, sample, savor, completely devour.
Swallowing, he asked, “Why are you here, Megan? Why did you let me bring you to my place?”
She shrugged. “Does it really matter why I’m here?”
“Yes, it matters,” he said instantly. “It shouldn’t, but it does.”
Her eyes narrowed, and her lips compressed into a thin line. She dug her hands into her hips. “Why do you think I’m here, Dom? I’m here for the same reason you want me here.”
Was that true? Did she want to be with him because every night she’d dreamed of being with him? Hated that she’d run off with his best friend? Hated that they had lost so much precious time apart? Did she care for him? Not a chance.
“Why do I want you here?”
He watched as her jaw shifted and squeezed, flexing as she clenched her teeth together. Her eyes scoured the ground, and she looked everywhere except at him. She sucked in a sharp breath and released it slowly.
“Look at me, Megan.” She did. Her eyes snapped up to meet his, and her heavy breaths moved from her chest and throat. “Why are you here? You don’t like me. You can’t even be in the same room with me without wanting to kill me. Why would you even give me the satisfaction of taking your body?” Again, his question was only met with silence. “Damn it, Megan, tell me,” he roared at her.
“Because I want to know, all right?” she yelled. “I want to know what it would be like to be with you. I want to know your touch, your taste, everything.” She pursed her lips together. “Call it curiosity, call it whatever you want.”
“Curiosity?” he drawled. “Then I’m just a fuck for you? An itch you want to scratch, is that it?”
    “Did you expect more?”
He narrowed his eyes as he drank in her beauty. Even though she admitted she was only there to use him, he couldn’t stop the ache in his chest, the rolling of acid in his stomach. Had he actually expected her to confess her undying love and devotion to him? Not exactly, but then if that wasn’t it, why did he feel like
