too painful. Tom was bucking up. He once again gripped Eric’s ass in his hands. It was too much.
“Abi! Tom!” He rocked a couple of times and lost control.
Tom wasn’t far behind. He screamed their names and stopped moving, his eyes shut tight and he bit his bottom lip. The expression on his face was something Eric didn’t want to forget any time soon. He looked at peace—blissful almost.
“Off.” Abi moved a bit letting him know he was getting too heavy. “Trash can’s over there.” Abi pointed off to the side.
Eric rolled over, but didn’t go far. Abi was between them again. The three of them lay there for a few minutes until they were breathing normally again. He wanted to say something, but was afraid to break the silence. He didn’t want this to be a one-time thing. He wanted more. He was addicted to the taste of Tom already and wanted to explore.
“Wow.” Tom moved so that he was on his side.
“Yeah.” Eric agreed and moved to match Tom’s position. Abi still lay between them, her eyes closed.
“I wasn’t expecting this.” Tom looked down at Abi. His hands were tangling in her hair.
Eric had always figured that he’d be possessive of Abi, but he wasn’t. Not all the time. Most people wouldn’t have understood that he was okay with Tom stroking her hair and looking down longingly at her face, because he was looking the same way at Tom.
“We weren’t either.” Eric grazed Tom’s arm with his fingers, just a soft caress.
“I was supposed to have my say and leave. Never look back.”
“Want to tell us what’s going on?” Eric didn’t want to push.
“I should wait, tell everyone together.”
“Yeah, but who knows how long Dan will be out? It could be late,” Abi got her say in as well.
They both wanted to know what had brought Tom to their door.
“True.” Tom took in a deep breath. Then another. “My mom died.”
“Dorothy’s gone?” Abi rolled toward Tom.
Tom sat upright in the bed. “What did you say?”
“Your mom, she’s dead? When?” Abi persisted.
“How do you know my mom?” Tom moved farther away.
“Danny talks about her all the time. She called the house a few times, but he never said she— I’m sorry, I didn’t know she was sick.” Abi threw herself at Tom and wrapped her body around his.
Tom was stiff and didn’t sink into the embrace the way Eric had thought he would. He hadn’t known what to expect. He knew that Dan and Dorothy had reconnected, but Dan didn’t talk about it much and Eric didn’t push. He never did know why the two hadn’t been together.
“She never said… Just… She told me to come here… Say goodbye.” Tom finally relaxed his body.
Eric moved in closer, putting his arms around Abi and Tom at the same time. He couldn’t imagine how much pain Tom was in. From what Dan had said, Dorothy had been everything to Tom. Fuck. No wonder he’d wanted to say his piece and leave.
“I was supposed to tell the old man she said goodbye then I was going to get out of here and never come back. He didn’t want me before so I really didn’t expect much, but to know— She never told me they were talking.”
“He has a lot of shame about what happened with your mom. A lot. He blames himself something fierce.” Abi petted Tom’s arm.
“He should!” Tom struggled against them and scrambled off the bed.
“Dan’s changed. He let his family rule his life, but he finally took a stand… He…” Eric didn’t know what else to say.
“Where was his stand when my mom was pregnant with nowhere to go?” Tom paced the length of the room.
“I don’t know, Tom, I wish I could tell you. I haven’t been here my whole life like Abi. I just know within the last ten years or so he’s changed.”
“Fuck. I’m sorry. See, I should have waited and just talked to him. I’m taking years of anger out on the two of you and you don’t need my shit.” Tom sat on the edge of the bed.
“We wouldn’t have asked if we didn’t
