and boys want virgins that’s my conclusion. I could be wrong. Maybe that’s the leverage I have with him.
I hear the door open and he leans out. “I hope to see you there.” It sounds promising but he was just being polite considering I may know his deepest and darkest secret and it may have to do with me. I remembered him asking about his housekeeper’s daughter. Did he go around seducing some unsuspecting young black woman, if so, why when he found out that I was Wayne’s sister did he hesitate?
Staying in my room until it was time to go home wasn’t practical. After my shower and straightening my hair which took a godly amount of hours, I dressed in a pair of jeans and a tee shirt. Although it was cold outside it was like a sauna in his house. The larger floor to ceiling windows had frost on them which reminded me of Christmas. But it was far from December. We were only in October.
I decided I would face Mr. Edward Wentworth so I gathered my courage and sauntered into the dining room. I was shocked to see Edward in conversation with a young woman in her twenties and a man about my age. I stopped at the door. Edward hesitated and stood. The young man stood as well.
“This is Robin Douglas, Wayne’s younger sister.”
The younger man says to break the ice and to relax me, “Do you spell your name Robin or Robyn?”
“Robin like a bird,” I say with a closed smile.
“Please sit,” I say looking around the room. Men standing make me nervous not because it’s good manners but because it signals that they are comfortable enough to be in charge and comfortable enough that they can show manners. Which could be bad and good.

Chapter 5: Robin
W hen I sit, after the young man pulls a chair out for me, a maid comes in and sets a plate and silverware and two glasses in front of me. Good thing Wayne sent me to charm school, where they taught me how to eat like a lady, but my mother had taught me those important things before then. She thought it was important to meet a refined young man once I graduated from college.
“Robin, this is my fiancée, Maggie Stuart, and that good looking man to your right is Ryan Stuart her brother.” I smile at Edward and Ryan. Maggie wasn’t too excited about seeing me and I could tell. She’s a blond with long hair and a long neck and she wasn’t as pretty as she was pretending to be. She smiled a lot and she had the most beautiful teeth but her big eyes were too big for her long face and neck. The hair hid her profile. To me she looked like a long neck witch.
Ryan is handsome in an odd way and has blond hair. Blonds never rocked my boat. That tall dark man sitting across from me who appears to look at me when no ones looking, turns me on.
“What brings you here to Colorado?” Maggie says, her voice a little nasal and high. She is so skinny I’m wondering whether she ever eats. She’s five eight and probably wears a size zero.
“My brother is getting engaged to Alexis and she wants to tell Edward first.” I had let the cat out of the bag. I hadn’t tried to.
Maggie glances at Edward and then to me and says, “Does Mr. and Mrs. Wentworth know about this?” She scans Edward for an answer, and he hunches his shoulders with a smile. What the fuck does he care? And why does she care I wonder.
I answer her, “I don’t think so and it’s no one’s business when someone wants to marry another person. Especially if they are well over the age of twenty.” She looks to Edward. He raises his hand to his mouth and gazes at me. He likes my answer and he likes me. Some girls know when a man wants them. The attraction is strong and I feel it and Maggie must have felt it too because she’s hanging on to him for dear life.
After dinner Ryan asks me to go with him and listen to some music, “Let’s leave these two love birds alone. He didn’t know how one of the love birds was ready to put his pecker into my pouch. We sat and talked and around eight o’clock Wayne
