alone!â
Jenna poked her head in and found her sister buried under the covers. âOkay, lazybones, time to get up.â She pulled the covers back and saw Gabbyâs face, which was covered in tiny pink dots.
â Dios mÃo ! â Jenna exclaimed. âWhat is that?â
Gabby opened one eye and yawned. âWhatâs what?â Her hand touched her face and unconsciously began scratching.
Jenna grabbed a mirror off her dresser and handed it to her. âYour face. Itâs polka-dotted!â
Gabby bolted up in bed and stared in the mirror. âNo! It canât be!â The more she looked at the dots, the more they began to itch.
Her mother, Leo, and Marisol came running into the room to see what all the commotion was about. â Dios mÃo ! â Betty shouted.
âYou can say that again,â Marisol said, her mouth hanging open. âYour face looks awful!â
By now, Gabby was hysterical. âI know it looks awful! I look like one of Leoâs ties!â she sobbed.
Leo tried to calm everyone down. âMy ties arenât that bad, and neither is chicken pox. I had it; your mother had it.â
âI thought I had a shot for it,â Gabby wailed.
â SÃ ,â her mother replied. âWhich is why you wonât have a bad case and will heal very quickly.â
âItâs not fair,â Gabby said, scratching furiously at the red dots on her arms and legs.
Manny and Ricky came into their room in their pajamas. âMami, I feel hot,â Ricky said, holding his head and sniffling.
âAnd I feel itchy,â Manny added, scratching at his stomach.
âOh no, not you too!â Betty said, examining the twins.
âIs it the chicken pops?â Manny asked. âPriscilla in our class got it last week.â
âI donât like chicken pops. I like lollipops,â Ricky whined.
âIâm so sorry, mi amor ,â Betty told Leo. âItâs very bad timing.â
Gabby sniffled. âWhat do you mean âbad timingâ?â
Leo sat down on the side of her bed. âYou canât go on the cruise with chicken pox, and neither can Manny and Ricky.â Leo looked at his wife. âWhat will we do?â
âYou go with Jenna, Marisol, and Maggie. I will stay here and take care of everyone,â Betty insisted.
âI feel terrible,â Leo said, taking Bettyâs hand. âAnd I have four extra tickets now.â
Jenna suddenly got a brilliant idea. âFour? Thatâs perfect! Thatâs exactly how many I need,â she said.
Leo lookedâas Delaney would sayâconfuzzled. âPerfect for what?â
âFor taking Sadie, Lexi, Delaney, and Kylie on the cruise. Please, Leo? Pretty please? If we get everyoneâs parents to agree?â
Leo scratched his head. âOn one condition: Peace, Love, and Cupcakes bakes cupcakes for our big pirate-themed party onboard.â
Jenna threw her arms around him and gave him a huge bear hug. âYou are the best! El mejor ! â
Before he could change his mind, Jenna raced to her room to call Kylie.
âI have great news,â she said excitedly. âMy sister and brothers have the chicken pox, and PLC is setting sail tomorrow!â
Kylie, Delaney, Sadie, and Lexi had to do some quick convincing, but twenty-four hours later, they were joining Jenna on the cruise.
âMy mom said I have to write my social studies report while weâre on the ship,â Sadie announced.
âWhatâs it on?â Lexi asked as they waited in line at the ship terminal in New York City.
âThatâs the problemâI have no idea what to write about,â Sadie said, sighing.
âHow about how long it takes to board a cruise ship,â Jenna replied impatiently. Besides going through security and checking passports, they each had to wait till their cabin assignments were ready. Leo ran around with a clipboard, making
