himself deeply attached to her.
In turn Declan divulged his life story to Lilith. She was so intent on listening to him and she was never judgmental. He had told her about his life growing up without his father much like her own. Both of them were raised by single mothers. Unfortunately his mother had passed away. His mother’s passing wasn’t something he had actually dealt with in a long time so when he began speaking about it, he broke down.
Lilith was there for him and comforted him yet still left him feeling like a man. She treated him in such a way that some nights when he came home she’d be there waiting with a warm dinner plate, and a hot bath waiting for him. Some nights she’d feed him fruit and massage his body when he came home after drug raids.
Sometimes he still felt like Lilith was hiding something from him. There were certain places she didn’t want to go, certain rooms he couldn’t enter in her house. Even though she had a key to his house, he didn’t have one to hers. He choked it up to growing pains. She was so used to being in control he assumed it may just take her a little longer to let go. And he was okay with that.
Almost seven months into their relationship the case which had brought them together kept coming back to his team. The case was on trial already and there were all kinds of technicalities that may allow Donavan Goode to get off so they were working overtime to secure the evidence and make sure every step was followed accordingly in the case. This led to more canceled dates than he was okay with but still, Lilith was so calm about it. He knew he loved her but hoped she wouldn’t leave him now, as the late hours of an agent would generally drive a woman away.

Duke brought in a box of DVDs and set it on Declan’s desk making a loud noise. “Chief Durden wants you to review these ASAP. Says he trusts your eyes. Wants you to double check and make sure we didn’t miss anything. Apparently the district attorney is losing the jury and he needs some ammo against Donavan. They want every inch of the evidence combed through again.”
“Oh c’mon! You gotta be kidding me! Now? Right now?” Agent Weber grunted in frustration. “You know how many hours is on these DVDs?!”
“Your job buddy!” Duke laughed walking out the office door.
Explaining this to Lilith wasn’t going to be easy. He had a night planned for them. “Shit...this is going to take forever. This is going to take damn near all night!”
“Better get on it!” Duke yelled out loud.
Declan picked up his phone. Lilith was going to be angry. Canceling on her became an almost regular ordeal over these past six months what with this case but she was always so understanding about it. Surely she’d had enough. Waiting for her to answer he thought about her haughty attitude and how unlikely he felt it was to be so in love with her. But he was.
“Hello,” Lilith answered.
“Lilith,” Declan said intimately.
“Hey Weber,” Lilith teased.
“How’s it going babe?” Smiling at her tease. He liked it when she called him by his last name.
“Good I’m just getting my nails and feet done, then I’ll head home to get ready. 8 p.m. right?” she asked, excited for the evening. Even though they weren’t going out it’d been a few days since she'd seen him. In the weirdest way for her she missed him.
Closing his eyes he searched his mind for the words. “About that...I just got slammed with evidence I have to review again. Check for any missing links in the case and what not. See if we missed anything. It’s going to be a late night Lilith. I’m sorry and I swear I will make this up to you. I promise.”
“Well, I understand,” she said trying not to sound disappointed.
