andgathered her into his arms to hold her. They were both spent and peaceful as her mind drifted away. She smiled and closed her eyes, clinging to him as their bodies intertwined.
They met several times a month at the château for months; then one day he looked deep into her eyes. “There is something I need to tell you,” Deacon hesitantly whispered as he brushed her hair away from her face and kissed her lightly.
London could sense the seriousness of his tone and felt her throat tighten.
â€œI have been given a wonderful opportunity. I have been made a partner in the law firm where I work. I am required to move to England and will be leaving next week. I was going to tell you when I got here, but when I see you, I forget everything else, and, really, this worked out better.”
Worked out better? she thought, a tear already forming in her eyes.
She rubbed it away before looking up at him. She wanted to be okay with this, but she just had a sinking feeling.
He held her close and continued, “You’re so special, sweetie. Never forget that. We can email and IM each other and visit by webcam. I don’t want to lose you again.”
â€œI don’t want to lose you either. This webcam thing sounds like fun,” she said, trying to lighten up her own mood. “I think we could get really creative with that. We will just have to see how it goes. You’re special to me and I cherish these moments.”
London stayed wrapped in his arms for as long as she could, until he finally had to go. She didn’t get up to walk him to the door. It was all she could do to watch him leave before she buried her face in her pillow. He was gone, it seemed as quickly as he appeared, and her grandmother’s words again appeared in her mind. Real love never leaves . She smiled, feeling he would be back.

Chapter 2
A SUNTANNED BEACH SNACK
M emorial Day weekend plans included going to decorate her parents’ and grandmother’s graves. Then she would celebrate. London was feeling flirtatious and in need of a suntan, so what better place to go than to the beach so she could enjoy people and water. She threw on the racy black string bikini that accentuated her small waist and firm breasts and added a black sheer sarong, covering it all with a patio dress proper for the cemetery. She placed flowers on the grave sites as she reflected on the day she was told about the car accident that took her parents and led to her moving in with Grams. She felt grateful that her great loss was balanced by great blessings in the aftermath. She knew she had been loved, at least by her grandmother, and dedicated herself to embracing a spirit of joy. Alone or not, she was off to frolic on the beach.
The white sandy beach at Greenwich Point, also known as Tod’s Point Beach, in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, was a popular spot among the young. The half-hour drive in her convertible Beemer felt great, clearing her mind so she was ready for lying out on the beach and slathering on suntan oil and sunscreen—for soaking up some rays. She found a spot thathad just enough people around to make it interesting, not too many, though, to disturb her peace. The breeze was soothing, and the sound of the waves surging against the shoreline was invigorating. The afternoon quickly passed as she enjoyed watching a game of beach volleyball. Hunks with chiseled muscle and tanned skin were running everywhere around her, bending over and picking up the ball for another shot. An occasional ball came her way, allowing her to engage with other beach lovers.
One dark-haired guy in white shorts came so close to her and looked so good that he actually made her sex tingle. I could pull him over and take him right here . She giggled to herself. She lowered her dark shades and drank him in, smiling as he retrieved the ball beside her. He had olive skin, and although his eyes were hidden by sunglasses, she was sure they were the type she
