can’t get involved with him.”
“Umm…why not?”
“Mari, you know I
don’t do relationships. You know I don’t like complications and Wyatt would be
a huge complication.”
“Why, do you always
do that? Not every relationship becomes a complication if two people are
willing to work for it.”
“What if I don’t
want to work for it? I’m okay with the way my life is right now,
uncomplicated.”
“A life that is
okay is not the way to live. Rebel, you deserve to be with someone who will
make you happy. Someone who won’t complicate your life, but enrich it for the
better. I truly believe things happen for a reason and meeting Wyatt, is your
reason to live a little.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Slow down Mari. We only just met and hardly know each other and you already
have us in a relationship.”
“Of course you’re
not in a relationship with him. You’re in a flirtationship with him,” she said.
“A what?”
“A flirtationship,
duh.”
“What does that
mean and where do you come up with these words?
“A flirtationship
means exactly how it sounds. You’re both flirting with each other and
eventually it would lead to a relationship. I learned the word and meaning
through google.”
“Mari, we’d
probably never see each other again and if we did I don’t know if I can risk my
heart getting involved.”
“Rebel, when are
you going to realize you are not your mother? The more anger towards your past
and what your mother put you through the less capable you are of the loving the
present. You’re this amazing girl. You’re my best friend and I want you to be
happy. I want you to live. I want you to make mistakes and I want you to fall
in love and have someone love you back.”
“You don’t
understand. He looks like sex. The hot dirty kind that will keep you going back
for more, but when all is said and done I will be left with a piece of me
missing if it doesn’t work out.”
“I understand
Rebel, but let me voice one last argument before I drop the subject. Allow
yourself to hope, to believe and to love. Don’t allow your past to stop you
from finding happiness or love.” After Marissa had her final say she went to
her room and came back out in her pajamas and motioned for me to change while
she searched for a movie to watch on Netflix. We stayed up late watching chick
flicks and gorging on massive amounts of junk food. We consumed so much sweets
it’s wonder we were able to fall asleep from all the sugar that normally
would’ve given us energy.
The next morning
the smell of coffee percolating got me out of bed. I got up and went to the
bathroom to brush my teeth before making my way to the kitchen. Marissa turned
around from pouring coffee in a mug and said, “Good morning, sunshine. Would
you like some pancakes for breakfast?”
“God, no I don’t
want pancakes. I make that for Bailey every morning and I am so over them. Good
morning by the way.”
“Would you like
some coffee at least?”
“Absolutely.” She
poured me a cup, I added a little milk and sugar. I was beginning to feel human
after the second cup.
“So, I was thinking
we could hit the mall to get us some outfits for tonight. What do ya say?”
Marissa asked.
“Sound’s good. Let
me go shower and change so we can go,” I replied. After we took turns showering
and getting dressed we hit the mall. I wasn’t looking to spend hard earned
money, but if I didn’t Marissa would and I don’t like when she does that.
Marissa purchased a little black dress that looked phenomenal with her olive
complexion. I ended up purchasing a white halter top and black slacks that made
my ass look good. We headed to the food court after our shopping spree and ate
a lite lunch. Marissa insisted we get a manicure and pedicure. I tried to
decline because I was short on funds, but she insisted that she had me covered.
We headed back to her place after the nail salon and she gave me a facial. She
wanted us to look good because
