Granted, she’d played him, but he would be the better person today… well, starting now, anyway. He held her gaze. “Mom, I’m afraid I understand her hesitancy. When we first met, I was kind of an ass.”
His mother’s eyes narrowed.
“Kind of?” Sky batted her eyes all innocently.
“Language, Flynn. There are women around the table,” his father scolded.
“These women swear worse than I do.” He grinned.
“We do not.” Skylar launched a roll across the table, hitting him in the head.
“But you did teach me better manners than Sky is showing.” He glanced at Mia. “I am truly sorry for letting your beauty cloud my actions.” He held his hand to his chest in mock sincerity. “I only hope we can move past our initial meeting and try to be friends.”
A slew of emotions crossed her face while she watched the family members, at the table, ignoring their lunches as their eyes glanced between her and Flynn.
Mia cleared her throat. “You do realize that I’ll be coming and going at all hours of the night and day. My schedule varies, depending on the advancements and progressions I make.”
Flynn held in a grin as she tried for an easy way out. “I’m not your warden or your parent, Mia. Heck, I’m hardly there myself.”
Mia glanced around the table once more to find everyone looking at her. She was stuck, and he knew it. Mia Stewart and all of her secrets were about to be his roommate.
“Fine.”
“Great, now that’s settled, let’s eat.” Declan reached across the table, snagged a roll and set it on Olivia’s plate next to the other two. He was wrapped so tightly around Olivia’s fingers that Flynn swore he’d never end up the same way.
Chapter 4
Flynn offered to drive Mia back to the hotel so she could pack her things and they could get her situated before that evening. She’d been hesitant getting in the car, but she lifted her chin and slid inside. Almost as if she was proving something to herself. The air between them was charged in a way he couldn’t pinpoint. A way that no other woman had ever made him feel.
He followed her up to her room and lounged on the patio, out of her way, looking down at the pool while she gathered her things and repacked her suitcase.
Flynn leaned against the railing, watching the surf roll onto the shore. “I don’t blame you for wanting to stay here,” he called out over his shoulder. “I would hate giving up this view, too, but trust me when I tell you that mine is just as great.”
He turned to find her leaning against the sliding glass door, her packed suitcase at her feet, fiddling with the necklace hanging around her neck. “I’ll just be glad to get settled somewhere.” She stepped out on the balcony. “You’re a smart guy. You do realize this is a terrible idea, right?”
“Don’t worry, Mia. I’m not going to sneak into your room. You’ve made it clear that I’m not your type.” The smile grew on his face. “Your brother warned me that you only date assholes.”
“Did he?” Mia spun around and picked up her suitcase. “Well, that would put you on the top of the list.”
Oh, she was going to be fun to play with. She gave as good as she got, and he’d just begun testing her limits and her resolve. Flynn moved to the door, holding it open, and took the suitcase from her hands. Winning her over would be a piece of cake, if she didn’t kill him in his sleep. This woman would be putty in his proverbial hands, and what better way to watch out for her than to watch her every move?

Mia’s hair whipped around her face and into her mouth on the ride in Flynn’s Jeep. She didn’t have enough hands or a hat to keep it from attacking her head. Flynn drove without a care in the world. By the time she got to his place, her hair would be one big hornet’s nest of tangles and she’d be in deep need of a shower to get rid of the dirt residue and salty air clinging to every
