and body as I am with keeping guys away.
“What’s going through that gorgeous head of yours, huh?” The timber of his voice blasts me out of my thoughts.
I can hardly tell him that I was thinking about…
“Well?” Again he questions with the demanding voice.
My mind doesn’t think and just follows his demand as I hear myself say, “Having sex.”
Holy shit. That didn’t just come out of…
“Good, since it’s about twenty more minutes to the hotel I’ve booked for the night.” The freakin’ man isn’t holding back the laughter in his voice as he shakes his head in disbelief.
That right there saves him, but it freaks me out that he has that effect on me. “You shouldn’t use that tone of voice again.”
“I like using it on you, when I do… you seem to follow my orders without thinking. That’s the second time now. Before we got in the car, we didn’t have that level of connection. We're making progress , Ma Poupée. There’s no telling where it might lead. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to find out.”
I’m going to ignore his word vomit since I don’t want to argue again and I need him to get me to my brother. Wait… he already…
“You booked us a room? When?”
He gives me a quick glance before his eyes find the road again. “When I stopped for gas. I called my brother and after that my personal assistant. She booked rooms at two hotels for us along the way. She also made a few other arrangements, so a fresh set of clothes should be waiting for us. But before you go all into defense mode, I asked for a two-bedroom suite. Okay?”
Dammit. I can’t even bark out a few mean words because he’s being so thoughtful. How did I get myself into this? And why the hell isn’t he married? Hot guy like him, money… or wait…
“Personal assistant? Who is she, your girlfriend or something?” Yikes, even my own ears pick up on the distaste. And why would it bother me if he wasn’t available for taking my virginity. Shut up freakin’ dirty mind . I need to keep my distance, and my virginity intact, for that matter.
“That’s my forty-eight-year-old, married, employee. She’s been my PA for about five years now, and she makes my life so much easier. As for a girlfriend… you’re the only girl in my life right now. Well, apart from my sisters of course.” There’s a hint of amusement in his voice.
It’s always hard for me to pick up if a guy is flirting with me. I get the feeling he is and with the amusement I hear in his voice, I can’t help but to ruffle his feathers a bit.
Seeing he ignited when I told him Chester works for me, I answer matter-of-factly. “Ah, sisters… right. Hallie Mae and Elsie. Elsie is a real sweetheart; she works for me too.”
“ Merde. Please don’t tell me my baby sister works with gators.” His face is set in stone, as if he’s bracing himself for the answer.
I can’t worry him now even though a moment ago that seemed like fun. He clearly can’t take a joke about his family. “Just the stuffy fluffy ones they sell at the souvenir shop.” Taking a breath in between, I add, “Why leave for years and come back now? I mean… you really seem to care about your family but yet you left for years? I don’t get it.”
It might be a bit personal but I’m curious and… yes, I want to know more about him. The guy intrigues me, what can I say?
“Over time we all came and went, well everyone but Chester. He’s the only one who never left home. The rest of us just followed our own path. Hallie Mae and Elsie got a house together, something about twins and needing each other or some girly shit Earle and Zeke don’t seem to have that problem. My twin brothers don’t work for you, right?”
“Nope, I’ve heard of them by name… and Roscoe of course, but he doesn’t work for me either.” I needed to add that last part so he didn’t have to ask.
“Ah, Roscoe. Have you heard from or seen him? I haven’t heard from him
