on your mind,” Angie yelled out. The crowd laughed harder at her joke.
    “Oh shit,” someone called out.
“A bald joke,” he said, rubbing his head. “That hurts.”
“Would you prefer a skinny joke?” she asked. The whole audience was watching her with smiling faces, curious to see what she was going to say next. She stood in front of Sidney and stared the comedian down. “You’re so skinny you have to run around in the shower to get wet.” The whole crowd laughed and looked back at her for more.
“Don’t be embarrassed,” she yelled. “Nobody can see you behind that mic stand anyways.” Sidney swept her up and in his arms and he walked out of the club to a backdrop of claps and cheers.
They stepped outside onto the sidewalk and she had to stop herself from kissing him as adrenaline coursed through her veins. She had never done anything like that before.
He pulled her into the next spot, a packed club with music so loud that it made her eardrums thump to the beat. He held her hand, pulling her to the bar and ordered two shots. It was sour like lemonade. He said something but she couldn’t hear over the music. He guided her through the packed, sweaty crowd, the sexy people parting before the big man, all the way to the dance floor.
It felt good to be out of the lab. To be doing what normal people her age did.
He brought her in close, his hand tight on her lower back, and swayed his hips to the beat of the music. She held her breath at the masculine scent of him and the tightness of his muscular body. Her mouth became moist, her nerve endings tingling and stirring at his every touch. As frustrating as he was, her body definitely responded to his in a major way.
Angie moved in close, erasing all distance from him. Her hips moved in sync with his as they danced. Her fingers brushed along his back as she moved, her touch lingering on his taut back muscles.
He felt good. She didn’t realize until then how much she had been craving a man’s touch. His touch. It felt right but it was all wrong. She couldn’t be with him. She had a career to focus on. I don’t want this. I don’t want this.
She leaned her cheek on his chest and breathed in his scent. Enjoying the moment for now because tomorrow it would be over. She would have to break it off.
    I don’t want this.
    I don’t want this.
She said it over and over again. So why wasn’t her body listening?

Angie glanced at her watch. Holy shit! Was it really three o’clock? The time had flown by. She had to get up early tomorrow to run another session on the Accelerator with her team.
“I really have to get to bed,” she said. “I have to get up early tomorrow.”
    “Can you call in sick?”
She snorted a laugh. “Yeah right.” She stepped off of the sidewalk and raised her hand to hail a cab. “Which hotel are you staying at?”
He laughed. “I’m staying with you. We’re mates.”
She sighed. “We’re not…You didn’t book a hotel? Where is your bag?”
    “At your apartment,” he said.
“What?” She dropped her hand and stared at him. “How?”
“Grace gave me a key,” he said. “I dropped off my bag before coming to see you.”
That bitch. She was always trying to get Angie laid, saying that she was uptight and never had enough fun. This was going to complicate things. Sidney was fun but there were more important things at play here. She was going to break it off with him tomorrow. This was going to make it harder.
“You were in my apartment?” she asked.
    “Of course,” he said. “We’re-”
“Mates,” she said, finishing his sentence before him. “Funny how I never got a say in the matter.”
She turned back to the street and hailed a cab, shaking her hand. A yellow taxi pulled up to the curb and she opened the door.
Sidney was standing on the sidewalk with a hopeful look on his face.
“Well get in,” she said, rolling her eyes. “I’m not going to make you sleep on the
