right now.”
This conversation is pointless now that his infamous stubbornness has set in. “Forget it.” He would have been the easiest route to relocating my pack to another safe house, but I’m certainly not dependent on his help. I’ll take care of it on my own.
I cross to the door.
My wolf senses kick in abruptly and a fraction of a second later I hear him snarl.
The air moves. He’s leaping at me!
I spin around swiftly, drawing my pistol as I do, and fire off a shot. He yelps—a wolf sound—and as I look down at him writhing on the floor, I see that he’s half wolfed-out. If I’d reacted just a tad slower, he would have pounced on me in full wolf form and my wolf would have come out to play before I could stop her. Close call.
“You’re lucky these bullets aren’t silver.”
“You…shot me?” he pants as he struggles to rip the bullet from his chest cavity. He won’t be able to heal until it’s out, but I’m not about to help him out, because he’ll be back on his feet in no time if I do.
“This thing between us is done,” I tell him, my tone ice-cold and uncompromising.
“Aria, listen—”
I don’t bother to spare him another glance. I’ve made my decision and that’s it. I never go back on a decision. Ever. And I have no problem cutting people out of my life without a second thought when it’s called for. It’s vital to my survival.
As I turn away from him, I tell him, “This was only ever sex, Tony. I have plenty of others to choose from. You’re just one of the many.”
“You bitch!” he snarls.
I cross to the door and call over my shoulder. “Forgetting that was your big mistake.”
And with that I storm out, slamming the door behind me. Fucking male Alpha wolves!
Chapter 3
~Ember~
I am Ember Savage.
I am running.
Away from someone, yes, but also towards someone. I am running from my father. A sadistic, calculating, cold-hearted monster.
He is a vampire so ancient and so powerful that he believes he is the ruler of us all. I disagreed, so I ran the first chance I could, escaping from his clutches back in England. I want to be free and I find my father repugnant. I will never believe in his regime. This clashes with his plans for me, but tough shit. You see, I’m also a vampire. But I was born this way two hundred years ago. I wasn’t created like the majority of my kind. There are only a handful of us in the world that are born to it and out of that handful I am even more special.
I am a Seer.
I can see the future, but more than that, I can see how to change the future. This makes me a hot commodity and the only reason my father wants me back so badly. I have been evading his henchmen for years, as they will use any force necessary to return me to my father. I move constantly, never staying in one place too long.
They got too close this time. I was foolish. I led them straight to me, but it was unavoidable. I left the dead body of a mugger in an alleyway, drained him dry and they tracked me. I don’t trust myself not to do it again. My bloodlust is extraordinarily high, so, as a result, I haven’t fed for two days. I am beyond starving, ravenous to the point of losing my shit, but I need to keep moving.
Towards my ‘someone’.
“Come on, girl,” I mutter as I slam the accelerator down on the Lamborghini I stole. It took me longer than I’d hoped to disable the GPS tracker on it—it is getting more and more difficult to jack high-end cars these days. Dawn is coming and I need to get to my destination before the sun comes up. My visions have led me to this city and as luck would have it, I have a man in the area.
Man.
Vampire.
Whatever.
I know I can trust him, because I sired him.
Accidentally.
I did not sign on to be Simon Watkins’ sire. I was in the midst of draining him, when he turned the tide and bit into my wrist so deeply that he drew blood. It was all it took. He knew what he was doing.
Fucker.
I turn off into the suburbs
