Damienâs broad shoulders. âIâm sorry to laugh, but talk about an odd couple.â
âWhatever,â Sadie said through a giggle of her own. âWe werenât a couple. It was just sex. And like I said, it was a long time ago. At any rate, I donât think Killian and his friends will be hanging out here much longer, and that means Darius will probably be back. So, letch or not, heâs a customer. Play nice when heâs here, Trixie. No one is saying you have to bang the old vamp, just placate him. Like Olivia always saysâhis money is as green as anyone elseâs.â She flicked her gaze to Justine. Based on the DJâs expression, she already knew about Killianâs club. âYou know about Killianâs plans, donât you?â
âWhat plans?â Trixie asked.
âYeah.â Justine nodded and rested her tattooed arms on the bar. âThatâs what I wanted to talk to you âbout.â
âWhatâs going on?â Damien asked with his typical big-brother concern.
âIt seems our werewolf friend is opening a club right here in the city. He and his pack have been spending all their time at The Coven to learn more about the business.â Sadie gave Trixie a pointed look. âSee? Killianâs hanging out here had nothing to do with me.â
âRight.â Trixie elbowed Damien. âShe wonât admit that the hot wolf man has the hots for her.â
âDonât start.â Sadie sighed. âAnd Killianâs not that hot.â Trixie and Justine gave her doubtful looks. Even Damien arched an eyebrow at her denial. âFine.â Sadie lifted one shoulder and gathered the receipts in a semi-neat stack while avoiding their inspecting stares. âHeâs kind of hot, if youâre into the arrogant alpha-male type. Anyway, he and his pack are opening a club next month here in Manhattan.â She made a scoffing noise. âWhatever. Itâll be out of business before the next full moon. Iâm not worried.â
âDoes Olivia know about it?â Damien asked.
âApparently, yes, she does.â Sadie tried not to show her irritation but it was no use. âI guess she didnât think it was important to mention.â
âLet me get this straight.â Trixie put up both hands and looked at Sadie like she had a screw loose. âYouâd diddle with Darius and his old balls, but you turn your nose up at a hot, sexy badass like Killian?â
âWe arenât talking about my sex history. We are talking about business.â
âYeah, but the sex stuff is more interesting.â
âYouâre too much.â Sadie shook her head and answered Trixieâs question. âDarius may be old, but heâs a vampire. And in case youâve forgotten, Killian is a werewolf.â
âSo?â Trixie shrugged. âThereâs no rule against having sex with their kind. Not really.â
âNo, but itâs certainly not encouraged,â Sadie said slowly with a glance at Justine who seemed increasingly uncomfortable with the topic. âWe all know that lust and bloodlust go hand in hand. Sleeping with a wolf isnât illegal, but feeding on one is.â Sadie shook her head quickly and rested her arms on the bar. âWait a minute. We arenât here to talk about the ill-advised idea of vampires and werewolves hooking up. Iâve got a business to run. Speaking of which, arenât you two going to get that stuff from the storage room?â
âWhatever you say, boss.â Damien started toward the back hallway. âCome on, Trixie.â
âNo way.â She sat on the stool next to Justine. âI want to hear more about the wolves.â
Sadie was about to protest when Damien grabbed the defiant pink-haired bartender and tossed her over his hulking shoulders. He turned around and winked at Sadie before disappearing into the dark hallway,
