the enemy, I would deal with you now. One day you will listen to what I say!” he snarled before he kissed her hard, his kiss possessive. As soon as the kiss began, it ended and she was pushed towards the entrance of the cavern.
“Take her out of here, Zephyrus. And don’t worry, her powers have been altered. She can’t turn you into anything. Just keep her safe.” Aeolus demanded and floated towards the unseen enemy, as wind ripped around the brothers as they went.
“This is my fight, you pig-headed fool! How dare you alter anything concerning me? Like I’m going to listen to you. It isn’t happening. Think again, almighty god!” Luna screamed at his retreating back.
Zephyrus picked her up and threw her over his shoulder in a fireman carry and walked toward the exit.
“I can’t believe you disobeyed him. I have never seen him this mad. If I didn’t think he’d turn on me, I would be laughing now,” Zephyrus said and exited the cavern. He headed toward the middle of Bourbon street where those outside laughed and shook their head.
“Put me down now!” Luna demanded. “I won’t have you carry me like this through town, you moron. If I can’t help find the bastards, I might as well deal with the authorities about my home,” Luna grunted.
Zephyrus stopped and lowered her to the ground. “We are to meet Aeolus at his temporary living quarters. He will not be happy if you’re not there.” Zephyrus smiled down at her.
Luna just shook her head. “Well, I have things to take care of, and I need to see if anything is left at my home. Let him wait. I am hoping the safe box I kept my Mom’s things in are safe. I need to do this, Zephyrus, but you can come with me if you want.” Luna walked in the direction of her home. She turned the corner and saw the police there with firefighters.
She slowed down, taking in the damage to her home. It was as if she was staring at ground zero of a bomb blast.
“Luna, thank God you’re okay. We were so worried you were inside, but we didn’t find anything. Are you hurt, honey?” The sheriff hugged her. She knew him well. His wife always came in to her shop and bought things, asking for help to protect her husband on the job.
“I am healthy and unhurt, Is everything gone, Hank? Can I look for my safe box?” Luna asked and turned toward the ashes. She had heard the growl in her mind and so had Zephyrus. He stepped beside her and pulled her under his arm.
“I am being rude here, Hank. This is Zephyrus, a friend. He’s here to help.” Luna looked around. She waited for Aeolus to pop out somewhere and claim her, but nothing happened.
“Luna, I don’t think it’s safe enough to go in there. It’s still hot and it will be for a while.” Hank nodded toward Zephyrus.
“Luna, Aeolus will look for you later. We really must get back to the apartment. He will be waiting for you there. I am sorry, Hank, but my brother is her fiancé. And he has been really worried about her with all the past attacks.” Zephyrus stated and pushed her towards the apartment.
“I didn’t know she was engaged. Luna you never mentioned it. Shelly will be so excited, She was so worried about you being alone, and so was I.” The sheriff once more pulled her into his arms for a quick hug, but she quickly pulled back, as the snarl filled her head.
“Thanks, Hank. I’m afraid his brother has not asked me to marry him. He just assumed I would say yes. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m tired. I haven’t slept all night and tomorrow, I want to search this rubble and see if I can find the safe box.” Luna pretended to yawn and leaned on Zephyrus. She might not be tired physically, but emotionally Luna was ready to give up.
“Let’s go.” Zephyrus wrapped his arm around her and led her away from her former home.
They walked towards the door where Aeolus stood waiting. He held out his arms, but Luna stared at him wearily. He reached out gently, taking her into his embrace.
