knew deep down it was not likely to happen.
    “I’ll
try calling Andre to see what’s up. You try Hannah’s number again.”
    Lucy
nodded and reached into her purse for her cell to call her best friend.
Suddenly a pang of fear struck her. What if something had happened to Hannah on
the way to the chapel?

Chapter 5

    Andre’s
BlackBerry buzzed in his pocket but he chose to ignore it. Whatever it was
could wait. This was more important. Hannah looked as if she was having a heart
attack.
    “Hans,
stop the car.” He commanded to the chauffeur before turning his attention back
to Hannah.
    “What
is it, Hannah? Are you alright ? Who answered the
phone?”
    Hannah
could not speak for a moment.
    Andre
picked up the phone from the floor of the hummer and listened for a moment. He
heard the sound of a man and woman arguing in a foreign language. It sounded
Russian. “Hello,” he said in a firm voice.
    “Yes,”
the woman spoke.
    “We’re
looking for Gustav.”
    “I am
his wife. What do you want with my husband?” the woman’s voice sounded curt. He
recognized the accent as Russian because he’d dealt with business associates
who spoke Russian.
    “How is
that possible? He is supposed to be married soon.”
    The
woman laughed a humorless laugh. “I don’t think so, mister.” The woman then
spewed some more words in her native tongue and he heard Gustav’s voice in the
background.
    Damn!
    Andre
had known something was off with Gustav and he’d had his men do a background
check on him which turned up some shady business and womanizing activities but
for some reason, his marriage which probably took place in Russia had not been
documented in the surveillance reports. But his team hadn’t finished digging up
all the dirt on Gustav.
    To see
Hannah torn was a blow to his gut.
    Andre
switched off the cell phone wishing he could slam it down. That fucking loser! No wonder Hannah had doubts about him. Just to
think she was about to make the biggest mistake of her life. The man was not
only using her to get a permanent resident status but the jerk was already
married back in his native land.
    He
reached for his cell and dialed his brother’s cell at lightning speed. Anger
roared through his veins.
    “Hey,
bro. What’s going on?” Dane answered.
    “Is
Gustav at the church yet?”
    “He’s
missing in action. Can’t even reach him.”
    “I
thought so.” Andre’s voice was void of emotion, his tone chilled. A muscle
twitched in his jaw. “There’s going to be a change of plan. Have the pianist
play some tunes before we get there,” Andre continued, his tone clipped.
    “Hey,
what’s going on Andre?”
    “I’m
going to take Gustav’s place.”
    There
was silence on the other end of the phone.

Chapter 6

    Hannah
couldn’t believe what her ears had just heard.
    Andre
was going to take Gustav’s place?
    “Wh-what?”
Hannah lifted up her head to Andre’s. Was he just saying that?
    Andre’s
lips thinned. “I already told you, Hannah. I’m not a marrying man.’
    “I know
that, Andre. But…but you just said.”
    “I know
what I just said. I’m going to go through with it. You deserve to have your
day, Hannah. You don’t deserve to be stood up on your wedding day.”
    So this
was out of pity and not love.
    “Please
Andre. Please don’t feel obligated to marry me because you feel sorry for me.
I’ll be fine,” she murmured, disappointment clouded her voice.
    “Hans,
we’re going to the Clark County Building,” Andre said into the limo phone.
    “Yes,
sir.” The voice came through on the speaker before Andre switched it off.
    “Do you
have your ID with you?” Andre turned to Hannah.
    “Yes. I
do, but…”
    “Isn’t
this what you’ve always wanted?”
    “Not
this way, Andre.”
    “Hannah.
The truth is, I can’t get you out of my system. Back there what happened at the
hotel was meant to happen. I know now that I can’t live without you.”
    Hannah
flushed. She held on
