cold on her chest. It was hot. She could hear the sizzling of her top. See the fibers disappearing right before her eyes. “Oh shit. It’s burning through my top.”
Benjamin reached for the glasses, and she screamed, “Don’t touch them!”
She ran down the bathroom hallway. She rushed into the bathroom, flinging the top off and away from her body, not caring that she stood in her bra in front of the sink. Turning the faucet on, she leaned over, cupping the water into her hands and splashing it on her pink skin.
She ignored the other women in the bathroom, who gave her a wide berth, leaving the minute that her top flew across the room.
The water provided little relief as she hurried to cool her skin, not knowing if she was doing more damage than good. Her fingers shook beneath the stream as she splashed more water on her chest. The water slid down her stomach.
The door flew open and Skylar met Luke’s gaze in the mirror.
    “Are you okay?”
He hurried in, letting the door close behind him, a plastic bottle of honey in his hand.
“It burns.” She bit back the tears that formed in her eyes.
He turned her and flicked the lid open on the bottle of honey, squeezing the cold goo out onto his palm. “This will help.”
He rubbed his palms together to smear the sticky stuff and placed his palms on her pink chest. The cold honey nipped the heat of whatever had been in her drink. She didn’t care if it was gooey or if it took a week to get off her skin. She was happy for the reprieve.
“Where did you learn this?” she asked as he poured more into his hand to layer the stuff on thick.
“When you grow up on an island and work in a lab, it’s good to know various remedies that work on burns. The honey will keep it from getting infected until we can get you to a hospital for proper treatment.”
    “What was in those drinks?”
“I’m not sure, but your father is going to be pissed. They’ve called your brother, and the restaurant manager has taken everyone else’s drinks. It’s starting to eat through the carpet. ”
Her eyes widened. She glanced down at her soaked bra. “I can’t walk out in just my bra, and there’s no way in hell I’m putting that shirt back on.”
“That’s an easy fix, Sky,” Luke answered, sliding his jacket off his arms and holding it open for her. “We’ll go up to my room and get one of my shirts that you can wear to the ER.”
“You realize, if I put that on, your jacket will never be the same.”
He cleared his throat, his tone serious as he answered. “I don’t give a damn about the jacket. I care about getting you the hell out of here.”
She slid her arms through the coat and pulled it around her chest. The jacket was huge to fit his muscled frame. It dwarfed her in width and hung past her butt. With a hand on her elbow, he guided her out of the bathroom, only stopping in front of her brother and the other investigators that had arrived.
“Her top, with holes, is in the bathroom. Don’t touch it with bare hands. It burned her skin.”
Declan’s worried gaze turned to her. “Let me see, Sky.”
“Uh…no.” She pursed her lips. “You can take my word for it. You need to figure out what the hell was in those drinks.”
Luke led her away, but she glanced over her shoulder when he held open the door. “And…don’t tell Mom.”
He shook his head and pressed his lips into a fine line. “It’s too late. Mom and dad already know and are on their way here. You can thank Benji for that. EMS is in the lobby waiting to treat you and decide if you need further treatment at the hospital.”
“They can do it in my room,” Luke called out, pulling her out the door and into the hotel. Two EMS technicians were standing in the lobby with their equipment in hand.
He pulled out his card key and handed it to Skylar. “Use my penthouse suite. It will give you some privacy. I’ll be up in a few minutes. I need to talk to your brother.”
    “Thanks.” She
