to kill me?”

“I’m sure your wolf has told you something about your mate.  We as wolves have one person out there that is our partner. The other half of us.  Only this person can make you feel safe, loved, excited.  You will feel things for this person you will never feel with another.” Her father explained and all Serenity could do was look at him in awe.

“The feelings get stronger once you mate.  During the mating process, he will bite you in the spot between your shoulder and neck.” Serenity placed her hand on the spot her father had just mentioned. That was the exact spot the wolf tried to bite.

“Every wolf has their own individual scent.  When your wolf smells the scent of your mate, they tell you. That wolf scented you as his mate and he came to you.  Did he tell you not to run?” Her father asked and she tried very hard to remember.

“Yes dad, he did, but I was scared.” Just the thought of it made her shiver. The animal had been bigger than she.

“Serenity, you must never run from a your mate.  They take it as a challenge and the animal takes over.  The human has no control over the wolf.”

“Was he going to um, mate me?” She asked fearing the answer.

“Yes, his wolf wanted you.  We hardly ever mate in wolf form because the animal is very rough. The very act is primal and animalistic. So we’ve always mated in human form.” Serenity was enthralled with all this new information.

“So what does that mean? Is a mate the equivalent of a husband?” Her father ran his fingers through his hair. The nervous tick again.

“Yes sugar that’s what it means.”

I stood up in a flash. “What? Wait a minute. You just told me yesterday that I’m a wolf. That I was going to die soon. Now I have a mate and have to be with him.  What the hell is going on? Where is this so called mate so I can slap him for trying to force himself on me?” Everyone once again looked at the guy named Logan.

Serenity didn’t want to look but her head moved in his direction. There he was, standing right beside her. Shit, she hadn’t even heard him move.

“I’m so sorry, I told you not to run.  There was nothing I could do.” Serenity looked at him in disbelief. So she did as said. The sound of the impact of her palm on his face made everyone turn her way.

Her father tried to calm her but she was having none of it. “He’s an animal, that’s what he is!!” Serenity glared at the so called mate. How can they say he belongs to her, yet he tried to hurt her?

“It’s ok, she’s right. My wolf had taken over making me an animal.  I am so sorry Serenity, can you ever forgive me?” Logan asked.   She looked at him trying to judge his sincerity. “That still doesn’t change the fact that I’m your mate. See, you marked me.” He showed her the mark on his arm. Her eyes widened. It matched the one she had found on her arm minutes ago. “See, we have matching his and hers tattoos.”

“I don’t even know you.” Serenity whispered the truth.

Logan was in quite a dilemma.  He wanted her love, but needed to earn her trust….

“I will not make you come with me. For now, we can date. Until you’re ready to be with me. You must know that your wolf will be bugging you until we’re together.” Logan told her in hopes that she would see that her happiness mattered to him.

“Holy shit dude, are you for real? You’re not going to make your mate go with you?” Ricky asked through mind link.

“Logan, are you getting sick?”  Kevin asked.

“Guys, this is my mate. After what I almost did.  I think I got off easy with just the smack.  Plus, I want her to get to know me so she can love me.  I don’t want her to feel forced because we’re mates.” It was all true.

“Wow, is our little Logan growing up?” Rene asked in a teasing voice.

“Plus, let’s not overlook that she’s
