close her breasts were flattened against his world-famous chest.
"You're sexy, you know that?" He kissed her neck, and she breathed in, wanting to remember the way he smelt. "I won't forget this."
She snickered. "Geez. You must do this kind of thing all the time. How many girls a day do you have to peel off you?"
He stiffened. "It's not like that."
It was her turn to put him at ease. "I didn't mean it like that. You can't help it. They make the videos like that to sell records."

    He chuckled. "And concert tickets."
She imagined the screaming crowds. "Right."
    "It's an image. I don't—"
Rapping on the door cut him off. It was followed by Ian's voice, coming softly through the door. "Ram? You two in there?"
Ram found the door handle and swung the door open.
Light streamed in and Karrie blinked, her eyes stinging a bit from the brightness.
"Hey, sorry, but we're getting close. Thought you two might want to, well, come out before the dudes started doing stuff to get ready."
"Doing stuff to get ready? That sounds really lame, Ian."
Ram punched at Ian, but his friend jumped to the side and Ram ended up punching the air. "Admit it. You just got bored."
"Yeah. Whatever. The chick has a boyfriend. She's on her way to see him."
"What about her friend?" Ram asked, stepping out.
"She only likes girls." Ian frowned. "And there aren't any others on the ferry. I looked."
"Fine. We were on our way out, anyway." Ram reached in and pulled Karrie from the tiny closet.
Karrie tumbled out, her eyes adjusting to the fierce sun.
Wind swirled, tugging at her hair and making her T-shirt billow out. She raised her hand to tuck it in, so it didn't blow up and expose her, but Ram snatched her hand and tucked it inside hers.

"I'm not letting you get away that easy," Ram said, pulling her over.
Karrie fell in beside him, pretending everything was fine even though she was still spinning from the truth. But she wasn't so out of it that she was going to be okay with flashing everyone on the boat. She used her other hand to tuck in her shirt.
They hurried out of the covered section to stand by the rail.
"I guess I'll make one last pass to see if I missed any," Ian said, already scanning the crowd.
"You do that," Ram replied, reaching out to shove his friend away.
Karrie leaned against the rail. The shoreline looked the same as the one they'd left, a blur of palm trees, brush, and low growing plants. Clusters of tiny islands ran along the shoreline, low braches dipping into the water at odd angles.
The beach was covered with people lying on towels and sipping drinks under umbrellas. Near the edge of the water, a couple of teenagers were feeding a flock of gulls, tossing something from a bag and laughing as the birds swooped up the food and flew off. Off in the distance white sailboats skimmed across the glittering blue-green water.
"You haven't been to the island before?" Ram said, coming up behind her and bracing one hand on each side of her body.
"How did you guess?" she asked, her face inches away from his when she looked over her shoulder.
"That expression on your face," he replied, tucking a stray piece of her hair behind her ear.

She blushed, worried that she looked naive and inexperienced. What kind of person had never seen the ocean before? He saw her distress and nuzzled her neck, making her smile. Being embarrassed now—after what they'd done in the closet—was ridiculous. And he was so sweet it was impossible to worry that he thought she was boringly innocent.
"We love it, too. That's why Ian and I come down here, to get away from all the craziness of the club scene and the media and all that." He nuzzled her neck and kissed below her ear. "It's wild and quiet at the same time. Sound like anyone you know?"
"Not you, that's for sure." Karrie chuckled, then turned back to the view.
