of what was going on at that particular moment. “That was a pretty damn thing to say,” he thought. “But what other reason would she have to say no?”
“ No, it’s nothing like that,” she said shaking her head. “I love you to the end of the world and back,” she said cupping his face in her hands.
“ Then what is it? Don’t you want me to marry you?” Mitchell asked looking at her. “Because it sounds like you don’t want to marry me,” he said as he pulled another seat to sit next to her.
“ Mitchell, I’m just surprised that’s all,” she finally said looking at him. “You have to understand that this is something never thought would ever happen to me,” she said.
“ Why would you think that?” Mitchell asked looking at her.
“ Because, in my entire family no one has ever, ever gotten married,” she answered. “At least not in the last two generations,” she added laughing.
Mitchell gave her a confused look as he placed the velvet case on the table. “Okay, you lost me,” he said looking at her. Natasha took a long deep breath and looked at him.
“My nan’s ma is the last person I know who got married and even that ended badly. Marriage has never been a big thing to me because…well, I don’t see the big deal in getting a piece of paper to prove that I love you,” she explained. Mitch looked at her still confused.
“ So you think just because the marriages in your family didn’t work out that ours will be the same? That I’ll leave you?” he asked looking into her eyes.
“ I didn’t say that,” she said looking at him. “All I mean is that marriage changes people, most times for the worse,” she said looking at him.
“ Don’t you trust me?” he asked looking at her, not believing her ears. “Do you really think I would do…whatever those other guys did,” he asked as he felt a cold sweat breaking on his forehead. Natasha looked at her and sighed for the millionth time.
“ It’s nothing like that,” she said walking towards her. “I just…I don’t feel ready,” she said in a low voice.
“ For what?” he asked angrily. “What could you possibly not be ready for?” he asked again. Natasha looked at him. He was clearly not understanding the reason for her not saying yes to his proposal.
“ Baby, I love being with you,” she said looking at him. “I am ready to make that lifetime commitment to you. Just not right now,” she added looking into his eyes.
“ Let me get this right,” he said leaning back in his seat. “Are you saying that you are not saying no but you do not want to marry me?” he asked looking at her. Natasha nodded and stood up before slowly walking to where he was.
“ No, you are getting it all wrong,” she said burying her face in her hands. “I do want to marry you, really I do but I just think it’s a bit early,” she added. He looked at her and sighed.
“ I love you Mitchell Schmidt but let’s take this one day at a time, okay?” she asked looking into his eyes.
“ So, am I just supposed to sit and wait for you to make up your mind?” he asked looking at her. He was having a hard time understanding what exactly she wanted from the relationship. Was she in it for fun? Was he just another guy in the Natasha Black male spree or was she actually serious with him. He looked at her questioningly, his patience gradually reaching its limits. “What exactly are you saying, Natasha?” he asked again.
Natasha took a deep breath and sighed. “I have already made up my mind but I don’t think I can say yes right now,” she said sounding desperate the more she tried to explain herself to him. “I do want to be with you Mitchell,” she said. “I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t,” she added closing her eyes. She felt Mitchell’s arms around her.
“How long do I have to wait?” he asked.
“ As I said, we can’t rush it babe,” she said. “Let’s just focus on what we have,” she said resting her forehead on
