empathetic friend.

“ I do n’ t either Melanie. Usually they just send one of the newer legal counsel minions to oversee these sort of assignments. But, Mr. Brown personally requested to take this trip with you and Craig . ”

I just nodded along. Craig was the field journalist that I had worked with on several assignments. He was two years short of retirement and was easy to work with. He knew what he wanted and had grown past the diva stage that so many of the field journalists seemed to have. I preferred working with him and he seemed to think I was the only photographer worth a damn. So, it came as no surprise that we had been paired up on this assigned.

As Innis Communications grew to a monstrous size, a company policy was put in place, before I came on board, to have legal accompany us on any political or challenging trip. An executive officer had never accompanied an assignment. Ever.

I still had n’ t said anything and just continued to fiddle mindlessly with the papers that were now haphazardly stacked on my desk.

“ Melanie, you and Craig are the best I have. So I do n’ t need to remind you to stay on your A-game while out there. I want to make sure you leave an impression on Mr. Brown . ”

I wanted to hide under my desk.

    “ Yes, sir . ”

“ Whatever he needs from you Melanie, you provide. Do you understand? I do n’ t know why one of the dogs are getting their noses in our assignments now, but it ca n’ t be good and I want to make sure he comes back happy . ”

    “ I understand . ” I blushed wildly.

Charles looked like he wanted to say something else but fortunately finally left me alone at my desk as he headed back from wherever he came from. I dug frantically through my purse and found my phon e – four messages.

Im going to fuck you hard on my desk
I already have something in my drawer to tie you up with
    Im bringing the blindfold too
Chuck must be talking to you now. Ill bring the blindfold to Rome too.

Im going to kill you! I quickly texted him back.

Do n’ t want to go to Rome with me?

I responded with a brief recap of the conversation I had with my boss and was awarded with several lo l’ s in a row followed by another text.

Your boss is right, you should do everything I say.

As I finished editing photos I thought about Rome with Warren and my heart soared. Then, just as quickly as my happiness peaked I thought about six days of being thousands of miles away from Lilian again and my heart already began to ache from missing her. My endless world of never-ending heartache and half-fulfilled moments of happiness. I sent a quick message to Zach about my new assignment and he responded with just one message.

    Ok

I dove into my work over the next several hours and even worked through lunch. What normally would have taken me an hour was taking me all morning and part of the afternoon. If I was n’ t thinking about leaving Lilian again, I was thinking about being in Rome with Warren. Would we have any alone time? Would we risk staying in the same hotel room together? When I was n’ t thinking of Rome I was thinking about the weekend and promises of blindfolds.
My phone chimed again, snapping me out of my daydreams.

Left a note on your car. You probably should remove it before someone sees. ;)

I jumped in my seat and looked around quickly. I hurried to the car, wondering why Warren was being so reckless today. I saw the folded slip of paper underneath the windshield wiper and breath a sigh of relief. It did n’ t stop me from running to the car and snatching the paper and opening it.

I like the skirt you’re wearing. Easy access. I think you should bend over. - W.

I gasped. But before I could turn around to see where Warren was. Because, clearly, he was watching me. I felt his weight against my back, pressing me against my car. My heart accelerated, pounding in my chest. I
