very fan friendly.”
We couldn’t go. He had to talk to Gabi and realize how cool she was. How she’d make the perfect girlfriend. “Sorry,” Gabi said. “We don’t want to bother you. We were just hoping to get a picture.”
Yeah, and an engagement ring. Gabi was thinking too small. “I’ll take it of the two of you,” I offered. “Now get closer.”
    They just stood there.
â€œLance, put your arm around Gabi.”
He didn’t do it. Instead he shook his head. “You two really need to go before my manager sees you.” His eyes darted to the door in the back of the store. There was an office back there.
Gabi walked back next to me and grabbed my arm. “Let’s go, Angel.”
I wasn’t ready to give up. “Lance, wait! You didn’t even get a chance to talk to Gabi. She’s really funny. She’ll have you laughing up a storm. Say something funny, Gabi.”
â€œWhat are you doing?” she whispered at me, keeping a fake smile plastered on her face the whole time.
â€œHelping you,” I whispered back. “And,” I said, this time to Lance, “she’s supersweet. I heard that you donate your time to charities. Well Gabi is always doing nice things. She never litters, once she saved a bird she found with a broken wing, and she even refuses to dissect frogs in science class.”
â€œNice,” Lance said. But he didn’t mean it. He was looking at the exit and his feet were all fidgety. I had to up my game.
â€œKnow what else?” I asked him.
â€œQuit it, Angel,” Gabi said, pinching me on the arm.
But I couldn’t. My plan was going to work, I just needed to give it time. “Gabi would be perfect for you to take to all of your red carpet events. I read the magazines, I know all those Hollywood stars are obnoxious. You don’t need that. Not when there’s someone as nice and as pretty as Gabi. She’d be the perfect date for you. Plus, she’s been crushing on you forever!”
    â€œAngel!” Gabi yelled.
â€œSo what do you think?” I asked Lance, pretending I didn’t hear Gabi’s protest.
â€œCut it out,” Gabi answered for him. “I can’t believe you’re doing this to me again. Do you enjoy making a fool of me?” Gabi’s hands were balled up into fists. She was squeezing them so hard, her knuckles were white.
â€œThat’s not what I’m doing. I’m helping you.”
â€œLike how you helped with Marc? I told you to butt out of my love life.”
â€œYou guys really need to go,” Lance said, glancing behind him. “My manager is going to hear you. It’s going to get us all into trouble.”
â€œWe’re so sorry,” Gabi said, heading through the empty racks of clothes toward the door. “Let’s go, Angel.” Her voice was fierce.
â€œJust one date?” I asked Lance. “She’s had a really bad day. This guy was a total jer—”
â€œAngel!” Gabi screamed again. And Lance just shook his head.
But I didn’t care. I was not letting Gabi and Lance’s romance die before it even started. I was going to go with my backup plan. I was going to cast a love spell on Lance and make him go nutty over Gabi. To see how incredible she really was. Then she’d forgive me. One kiss from Lance Gold and she’d totally forget that she’d ever been angry or hurt.
Yes, playing around with people’s emotions was an advanced power. And my track record in that department was not exactly award-winning. But it was going to work. I was focused and wanted it more than anything. Two key ingredients to controlling my gift. Besides, it wasn’t like I was trying to make the whole galaxy worship Gabi. I was just making one guy fall in love with one girl. It wasn’t that big of a deal.
I put my arms out, directing them right at Lance. He needed to fall
