just to be away from Cat and Corrie is incentive enough. Her mind
persisted.
    “I’ll do it.”
Grace said. Guy became visibly excited. “On two conditions though, I want the
cheque written out for £ 65,000 to myself and I want media
recognition for the cake.” Grace added.
    She wanted to say “and
you.” But felt it cheeky to do so.
    “And to whom I
make this cheque out to?” Guy asked. He realised that not once he asked for her
name.
    “Grace Ann
Knowles.” smiling she replied.
    Guy scribbled her
name and the amount requested on the cheque. Tamzin already signed the cheque.
He handed it to Grace and looked at her as though he were the cat that got the
cream. Although she’d be working Guy couldn’t wait to get her back to the hall
to get to know her better.
    “I’ve got to get a
few of my belongings together. You can meet me at the Bird in Hand pub. It’s
across the road. Is it fine by you?” Grace asked.
    “It’s more than
fine. I’ll see you in a bit then.” he replied.
    Grace walked
around the counter to let Guy out the door. Grace opened the door holding it as
Guy walked out. But before Guy stepped out he turned his body to her and kissed
her on the cheek. Grace turned a rosy pink blush from the impromptu kiss.
    “A million thanks,
Grace. I’ll see you soon.” Guy said.
    Grace could barely
breathe or utter a response. Somehow Grace managed to breathily reply “See you
soon.” And she closed the door behind him. She pulled down the shade and turned
to walk to the flat only to see two very cross aunts standing right behind her.

    “I can’t believe it! You’ve taken the
bloody job without consulting one of us and it’s such a huge task!” said Cat
not disguising her anger. She didn’t like this one bit.
                “I
took it. I’m doing it for me not the Plum. I’m going to start my business and
what better way to start it with a celebrity wedding.”Grace stated. She was annoyed
by their reaction. They all stormed up the stairs like a herd of angry cattle.
                “You’re
going to Worthington Hall by yourself and staying there? Why couldn’t you bake the
cake here?”Corrie implored.
                “He’ll
rape you. I read about them football lads. They have cocaine fuelled orgies on
stag-do and major celebratory wins. No good will comes of this.” Cat predicted
as they entered the flat.
                Grace’s
mouth went agape. She felt the colour draining from her face. What did they know about drugs, orgies and
men? They read way too many gossip
rags and tabloids. I’m going to have
to speak to Mrs. Penny at the Spar to cancel their subscription.
                “It’s
true! They’ll probably grab you whilst you’re putting the cake in the bloody
oven and bend you over a butcher block...” Corrie cried.
    In revulsion Corrie
put her hands on her cheeks. Grace recoiled in repulsion. The women’s hearts
were palpitating hard. Cat thought she’d go into cardiac arrest at the thought
of Grace being harmed.
“ Stop it! Stop it now! There will be no butcher block orgies. This
is simply business! ” Grace shouted.
                “I
know you’re trying to protect me, but I’m twenty-five years old. When I return,
we’ll have a long chat about my future.” Grace added softly.
                Before
sulking off to the kitchen, Cat and Corrie looked at Grace with teary eyes.
Grace went off to her bedroom to pack her belongings. As the twins made their tea,
they moved about the kitchen whispering of possibilities of the worst happening.
They were concerned for their niece whom they raised as a daughter.

walls were covered in old posters of boy-bands like Boy-Zone and Take-That . Her
