her back once, a simple blind date with a guy who, looks wise, was totally her type. When they got home, she nailed Logan so hard in the nuts I thought he was gonna have to have them surgically removed. The thought alone makes me shudder. You too?
Do you think C.J. is right? Do you think that Logan is doing the only things he can think of to prove that he wants me to be…well his girlfriend? First, he wouldn’t fuck me in the car, now he’s taking me out on dates, and then there’s the added bonus that he’s not hooking up with anyone else. That’s gotta be something right? Wait. Didn’t Erin point out those same things to me just a little while ago? Do not tell her she was right.
    Swear it.
“Hey Erin, what do you say we grab a drink after this?” C.J. strolls out kicking his legs in the new jeans to make more room.
“I would love to…but I have to take Maxx home.” Her fake attempt at pretending to be sad just makes him smile.
He’s always smiling at her. It upsets her, and he likes when she’s upset. I like when she’s upset. Hell, she deserves it sometimes too.
“I can drive your car home, no biggie.” My suggestion is followed by her snapping her head around.
If she were a comic book villain, and had the ability to shoot lasers out of her eyes, I would say she’d be the superheroes number one wanted criminal. Wow. See what happens when Logan insists on watching cartoons at breakfast?
“Perfect,” C.J. responds before she can object. “Dinner too? I’m starving.”
“Sounds perfect,” I say standing up and holding out my hand for her keys.
“Uh…could you excuse us for a second?” She grabs my hand drags me back towards the makeup and perfume area, a long distance from her date. Once she’s satisfied that we are far enough away, she snaps, “Are you crazy?! I don’t wanna have dinner with him!”
“Yes you do. That’s why you dragged me over here.”
    “Maxx—”
“Look we both know you like him and want to go have a drink, so just do it. If it makes you feel better, tell yourself you’re just doing it so Logan and I can have some time to be alone.” My suggestion quickly wipes the irritation from her face.
    “Are you two gonna talk?”
    My lips press together.
That’s the thing about us. We don’t pressure each other to talk about anything. That’s probably the reason we have so much damn trouble with each other, huh?
“Fine, but if you’re gonna talk in Logan’s language could you at least not do it on the couch?”
    “Deal.”
Erin lets out a long relieved sigh.
She really wanted to go out with C.J., but she didn’t want to want to go out. She’s just like Logan, I swear. Always ignoring what’s right in front of them. What did C.J. call them? Chicken shit. Yup. That seems fitting.
A devious grin creeps on her face. “One more thing.”
Terrified at the sudden change I stammer out, “Wh-wh-what?”
“Just a little trick.” She plops the clothes she’s been carrying down on the counter, grabs a bottle of cologne, and sprays one of the sample papers. After waving the strip back and forth she gives it a quick sniff then rubs it on my back.
    Weirdest payback ever.
    “What the hell, Erin?”
“This smell.” She tosses the strip to the side. “Is something like Tony would wear. And now that it is faintly on you, it’ll shoot Logan’s jealousy up a few pegs. Trust me. One of the oldest tricks in the book.”
“Of all the books you could read…”
“You’ll thank me later.” She fishes her car keys out of her pocket and hands them to me. “Drive safe.”
“I always do…” My answer is followed by a smirk as I stroll away. “Ride safe…”
Erin lets out a short giggle. “I always do…”
And I know what you’re wondering…and yes. Yes, I did mean that in a sexual way.

Chapter 3
