She began to stumble towards the person that was filming her attack. The video ended there.
Another posting came on the screen. In this footage the same type of events were playing out. Only the people in this video were obviously of different descent. They looked to be Chinese. There were multiple attackers in a crowded square, at least twenty. Victims were being bitten randomly. This time the attackers didn't appear intent on killing the people they were biting. They would attack one person then move off to the next almost immediately. The crowd wasn't trying to run from the infected like in the last video. They were fighting back. This may have been why the attacks were so short. But in reality, that didn't seem to be the case. It was more like they were trying to spread the infection to as many hosts as possible. One thing was certain. By fighting back and not trying to run, more people were being bitten. I could swear I saw a woman that only moments ago was fighting for her life attacking and biting others. People that had been bitten were still fighting off the assailants when the virus would take them. Convulsing and spasming, they would fall to the ground only to rise and begin attacking others. The camera panned over to a tank coming into the square. The cannon fired and a machine gun mounted on top opened fire into the crowd. I was glad there wasn't any audio. I could see the person firing the gun from on top the tank wasn't being too selective with his targeting. It was easy to see the looks of horror on the faces of the people as they finally started to try to get away from the destruction being rained down on them. The screen went blank.
“As you can see lieutenant, there were ten more postings last night after you left the office. You can be expecting well over one hundred today. You'll be busy but I'll need a report from you by noon. You're dismissed.”
                  “Yes sir.”
I walked to my desk wondering just how far this virus had spread.. The first video was from Saudi Arabia. The second appeared to be from somewhere in China. I looked at the report Major Stevens had given me. Three internet postings were out of Saudi Arabia, two from China, two from India, and one each from Russia, Egypt, and Ethiopia. The virus was spreading fast. I wondered what other areas of the world had been affected so far. I knew there was no way I'd be able to check for other sources of information while at work. My computer was monitored and I couldn't afford to send out any red flags. I'd have to rely on getting further information by doing my job.
I spent the rest of my morning working with my team shutting down web-sites, blogs, You Tube postings, Facebook sites, and the multitude of other internet sources providing information about the virus. I was trying to get a report together for Major Stevens when he came by my desk.
“Have you had lunch yet lieutenant?”
“No sir. I'm trying to get that report ready for you. I've been so busy shutting down internet sites I fell behind. I'm sorry sir. I know that's no excuse. I'll have it within the hour.”
“I understand. This has been one hell of a day. Take a break. We'll go down to the commissary and get something to eat.”
“Thank you sir. I could use a break.” I could also use some more inside information.
We rode the elevator down to the commissary in silence. When we got to the lunchroom the Major suggested we each get a sandwich and eat outside. When we got out of the building, the Major threw his sandwich into the nearest trash can. I was hungry so I ate mine while I listened to him talk.
“They're going ape shit crazy over at the Pentagon. General Simmons told me that
