was amazing was that they were still loyal. After everything that had gone down on that fateful day, they kept his secret. Only the family knew that he’d been the one gunning for Dominic Marianna. Despite what they believed he’d done, they still came by Terrace Glen weekly to hang out, and they still wanted to claim the Crofts as family.
That was loyalty.
That mattered.
Greyson didn’t know what he’d done to deserve that, but he was grateful. He loved both of them as if they were his own. How could he not?
They’d earned it.
Then there was Captain Chris Ford.
He was Emma’s adopted brother, of sorts. She loved him so much, and he felt the same. The trickiest part was that he had to play Homicide captain and adopted Croft.
It was a fine line to walk.
After Dominic Marianna had Chris and Emma targeted, he’d nearly lost his life. He’d finally made it back to work the last week, taking back his job.
They’d yet to see him, and they weren’t sure if he was just cleaning up Commissioner Jeffrey Raye’s mess, or if he was distancing himself.
They couldn’t blame him either way.
After Detective Mace Bristol was found dead in his own home, there was speculation. Had he found something out and been offed? The rumor mill was swirling—especially since he’d been Emma’s latest partner.
First Brynn had been killed.
Then Mace.
The cops in her precinct were beginning to believe Greyson was behind it. In fact, they were so certain, that the FBI was running an investigation alongside the LVPD.
The day of his demise, the truth came out. It turned out that Mace Bristol wasn’t a Homicide cop after all. He’d had a secret. He was actually a Fed, planted by the director well before the Blackhawks took over at FBI West. Director Greene wanted eyes on the inside, and he was their man.
Was he crooked?
No one knew for sure, but he’d worked under Director Greene, and the man had been on the take.
Still…
The FBI was trying to figure out what had happened. When one of their own turned up dead, there were questions that had to be answered.
Who killed him?
Was it an inside job?
Greyson was well aware who it was, but he wasn’t saying jack shit. He recognized the method of killing as one man’s favorite way to end a life.
Dimitri.
It all but screamed the man’s name.
There was a line, and Greyson wasn’t willing to cross it. Dimitri had his back, and he was going to protect him to the best of his ability.
They were family.
Yes, he’d look the other way. Emma wouldn’t be happy to know what had happened, and he couldn’t blame her. After all, she’d genuinely liked Mace, and they’d been partners.
Unfortunately, Greyson knew the world wasn’t black and white. There were so many shades of gray in between. Dimitri was definitely a shade of gray. He lived between the lines.
Still…
He felt bad about keeping Emma in the dark. He didn’t believe in secrets in his marriage, but this one was something he couldn’t help. Dimitri needed to be trusted, and Greyson had learned that the man wouldn’t kill unless there was a reason.
Before losing his badge, he would have been locking him away for being a criminal.
Now…
They were partners of sort. He found the cases, and they worked them.
Speaking of partners, his main one was heading his way. As Emma Croft pulled herself out of the pool, Greyson enjoyed the way the water ran off her skin. She was wearing the smallest bikini she owned.
It showed off her body and that turned him right on. There was no doubt that she was doing it with the intent to heat him up. If anything, his kitten liked to torment.
Considered him riled.
His body was reacting to the sight of her breasts nearly spilling from the small triangles. If there was a Heaven, he prayed this was it. Greyson wouldn’t mind spending his eternity by this pool.
It was hot.
As she headed his way, he couldn’t help but grin. This sexy redhead was all his. He’d done something right in
