thing with numbers. But with everything in life, you gotta start at the bottom. So I was an errand boy for a huge company. I had to take the elevator up to the twenty-fourth floor, I always took that time to read the paper, financial section... There was a guy, around the same age as me, who always seemed to end up in the elevator the same time as me. Anyway… He asked me my opinion one day and without thinking I told him my thoughts. Long story short… Turns out… that guy owned the effin company. The next day he was waiting in front of the elevator and we went for coffee instead. He followed my advice and to my shock made two point five million, pure profit... all because of a talk during an elevator ride.”
I shake my head as I chuckle at the memory. Talk about an effin turning point in my life.
“The owner? Landon Carsons. He offered me a new job and gave me half a millio n a s a type of commission. I invested every single penny and, well… let’s say I don’t even know or care how many millions are in my bank account. Landon is a good friend of mine and I followed his advice last week. We talked about it for months and we both had the same view on things so we just did it. Sold every company we had and left the business world. I came home and he picked out some tiny random town to live in. He talked about getting a job as a teacher, something about giving knowledge back to the world. As for me… I have no clue what I want.” Except for you, in my bed. Mentally adding that last part before I give her another quick glance.
She’s staring at me with those fiery, blue, twinkle eyes. “So you had nothing, obtained everything, yet feel like you still have nothing?”
The bark of laughter that escapes me is something I truly missed. Dagnammit . This woman has brightened my life more in the few short hours I’ve known her, than the last few years I spent making my millions. She’s effin precious and exactly what I want- what I need-  in my life. What’s been missing . All the money I have in this world has never made me feel this way. Who knew that something so amazing doesn’t cost one effin thing.
    “I guess you’re right, Ma Poupée … I guess you’re right.”

Chapter 03

    ***Bertie***

I’m in the car with a guy who has millions. Millions. Leave it to me to spit out my money problems a moment before he tells me. Great, Bertie, just freakin’ great. He’s gonna wave his money in my face thinking I will replace one idiot with another. Although the feeling deep down in my gut tells me somehow Cyrus wouldn’t do that…that he’s a good guy.
I’ve known his brother, Chester for years. He’s a sweet man. Much older than Cyrus, I’m sure. Their sister, Elsie, works in the souvenir shop. She’s a real sweetheart. So with intimate knowledge of his family and for him being a total stranger to me but offering to drive me for days to get my brother home… yeah, not one flash of doubt, there’s good in this guy.
That just makes it harder to push him away and keep my distance. That’s what I normally do; push guys away. Guys used to flock around me like flies to shit because they all thought I was pretty. The first guy who kissed me put his hands on my tits and squeezed it as if he thought I was a cow and he needed milk or would die of thirst. Yeah, that was a real sweet encounter. Or let’s call it what it was a stay away from guys wake-up call. Then Nana, the gator, thought it would be funny to have me for dinner. I was very lucky, my face… not so much.
And now that’s why I always wear the baseball cap or a hat to keep strands of hair hanging in front of the not so pretty side of my face. Something to hide behind, or at least cover up some of the mottled skin. Combine no boys with a messed up face?  Boom… twenty-three-year-old virgin. The way he glances at me every now and then though?  I can see desire swirling in those green eyes. Makes me wish I was as bold with my mouth
