out of her face.
    “Mmm,” was her sleepy reply.
“You promised me anything, remember?” He reminded her softly.
Clara reached back, patted his hip, and gave a small laugh. “I promise to give you head, baby. Just let me rest for a few minutes. You are such a guy.”
Behind her, he raised his eyebrows. She thought he had bargained for her to blow him? Yeah right, as if he ever had to bargain for that from her.
He remembered an occasion when she had walked into his bathroom while he was just getting out of the shower. She’d dropped to her knees in front of him and taken his cock in her mouth without even speaking, not that he complained. No one knew how to bring him such pleasure more than she did. Bargain for head? No, that was not his plan at all.
Pulling her tight, he spoke directly into her ear. “Tell me what happened.” He wasn’t surprised when her body stiffened against him and she tried to pull away.
“You promised me anything, my own.”
Clara was silent for a minute before he saw her nod. With a sigh, she looked over her shoulder at him.
“You are a tricky bastard, you know that.” It wasn’t a question.
“I am a wolf; what did you expect?” He shrugged. Watching her eyes, he expected to see anger and maybe sorrow. What he didn’t expect was the fear he saw there.
    “You really want to know?”
“I want to know,” he reassured her softly.
“Fine, but you have to promise me you won’t do anything stupid and you won’t tell Heath,” she insisted.
“Tell me.” Wall growled. This had to be worse than he thought. Why was Heath not to be told? What the hell was going on?
“Let go,” Clara said as she pulled away. For a second he held on to her, unsure he wanted to see what she was going to show him. When he moved his arm, Clara scooted over to the other side of the bed and pulled open the bedside drawer. She reached under it and pulled out something taped to the bottom.
She turned back and handed him a piece of paper. After reading the note, his focus zoned in on one point.
He didn’t speak, couldn’t form any words.
He moved without thought, climbed off the bed to grab his jeans and pulled them up on the way to the door.
“You can’t tell Heath! He’ll do something stupid, Wall,” Clara called after him as he left her room.
But he refused to stop. He had to get to his Alpha before the tentative control he had on himself and his wolf broke.
At Heath’s room, he knocked loudly and heard loud grumbling before the door opened.
“This had better be important, Wall. The sun is barely up!” Heath growled when he saw him. Wall didn’t say a word, just handed the note over.
As Heath read it, the grumpy-just-woken look left his face to be replaced by one of pure rage, the same look Wall figured he wore too.
He may have read the note only once, but he already knew the words by heart:
An eye for an eye, a brother for a sister. Your brother took mine from me, Clara, now it’s his turn to feel what that is like. Watch your back, little girl, because I’m coming for you.
The note was signed Alberto . He was the brother of their old Alpha, Christophe, who had tried and failed to take back the alpha place by kidnapping Laney and attempting to kill Heath. That plan hadn’t worked. Laney and Heath killed Christophe, and now it seemed his family wanted revenge.
“We need to get her somewhere safe while we deal with this,” the Alpha told him.
“I’ll protect her,” Wall assured Heath.
No one was going to get their hands on his woman.
He would kill them if they even tried.

Chapter 3
Clara barely waited for the door to close behind Wall before she moved. In less than two minutes, she was dressed and dropping out of her first floor bedroom window. She landed silently in a crouch grateful as ever to her shifter genes for the easy landing.
She kept low as she moved around the end of the house, knowing she didn’t have long before both men realized she was gone.
    Alberto
