flight. She left me to fight with my brain.
Why would he be so interested in having me? Because I said no? I say no all the time, that was not special, he was not special, I was not special. His Ben and Jerry’s life must be getting boring if he was so interested in me arriving safe to New York.
We landed, each of us carried our own luggage, no big guy to help in the city. As soon as Chelle took her cell out I knew who she was texting.
‘C, please tell Marc to thank Dylan for the upgrade, that the upgrade wasn’t necessary and to let him know we arrived safely.’
Michelle was smiling in that mischievous way. ‘You want me to ask for his number so you can tell him yourself?’
‘No M, he would rather know by Marc, and I bet you want to talk to him as much as you can so this is a chance for you to do that.’
We shared a cab to our apartments since we live near to each other. Chelle lives with two other girls, I with my lovely best friend, Kevin. That night I arrived to an empty apartment and decided to unpack before Kevin asked me to do his laundry along with mine when he got home. I loved our little apartment; the nice wooden floors and the white walls were perfect. It only had two rooms; a cozy kitchen and a comfortable living room where we spent most of our time together. Kevin and I had shared it since my parents left the city and moved to our house in the Hamptons.
The moment I opened my bag I noticed a weird box. It was a light brown box with white letters that I knew really well. Just as if they belonged there, a pair of pink Louboutins were waiting for me. Red soles, pink peep toe stilettos. I tried them on and found a note on the box.
They would look perfect on you, Long Legs.
Please let me see when you wear them,
    D.B.
Again? Again I set myself a limit to forget about him and again he broke that limit by appearing in my life uninvited. I hate that son of a bitch. And if he ever calls me “Long Legs” again I will break that lovely nose of his.
After unpacking, I fell asleep. The last few days were really tiring and my body needed some rest before going back to work. I woke up with my alarm and noticed a text on my phone. I thought it was probably Michelle so I ignored it. After a shower and my daily beauty routine I was on my way to work. While walking I remembered the text and I checked it:
KATHERINE, WAS IT SO DIFFICULT LETTING ME KNOW YOU ARRIVED OK?
No fucking way, who the hell gave him my number ? Without thinking or saving his number, I deleted the message. His time was over, in my head that didn’t happen, if it didn’t happen to me, it didn’t happen to him. Deal with it, Blue Eyes.

    Chapter 3
New clothes always make everything more exciting, I felt as if I were going to the first day of school. The next days came as usual; uneventful and always working. The most exciting thing to happen in my life were the new episodes of my TV shows. Sad, I know, but they were my escape from my demanding job.
Michelle called me every once in a while to tell me about how her relationship with Marc was continuing with a Tolkienesque quantity of texts. But mostly about how she had found the love of her life (for the twenty-fifth time this year). I never mentioned Him, never asked about Him, if He didn’t exist I couldn’t talk about Him, right?
Three weeks after our weird shopping trip I received the invitation to an award’s party from my agency. I usually avoided those parties, but this one was special for my boss and he had asked me to go. This time it was a fancy gala, where he would receive an award for an amazing campaign he designed for a sport’s brand. I was so proud that I could never have said no. He also knew the overachiever in me would never skip work, that was completely against my nature, and this gala was part of my job.
Even when the party was a pain in my ass, it was a fine reason to wear my new
