about that. I wasn’t thinking. Can you forgive me? Will you ever forgive me?” He held her gaze steadfastly, a worried expression on his face.
What is he up to ? What’s on his mind? This was one of the times Arielle wished that she could read Sebastian’s thoughts.
“You haven’t answered my question,” he insisted.
His tone brought her sapphire gaze to his eyes. “What question?”
    “Will you forgive me?”
She made a dismissive movement with her uninjured hand. “Oh, of course I’ll forgive you.” She was sure that something was amiss. The frown in his eyes said a lot more than his voice. She shut her eyes tightly. For a moment, Annabel’s image flashed before her eyes, and she shivered. Could this all be about Annabel? What happened in Brussels? She felt that she was standing in the middle of a deep canyon screaming out her fears. The thoughts were bouncing against the walls of her skull and echoing back into the far corners of her mind. Snapping her eyes open, she shook her head, and Annabel’s image vanished. Arielle decided that she was going to let it go for now, but she would resolve this later. Much later. She rubbed her throbbing hand once again and focused on his beautiful face.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me,” he murmured, brushing his lips against her ear once again. Clasping her hand gently in his, he placed a kiss on her nose and pulled her softly to him. “Are you ready to go?” She nodded, and they made their way toward their friends.
“What’s wrong?” Gabrielle asked as they approached. “You look awful!”
Arielle smiled and hugged her friends. “Nothing is wrong,” she lied. “By the way, thanks for the compliment.” She feigned displeasure at Gabrielle.
A small smile quirked Troy’s lips and Gabrielle snorted. “I was just kidding.”
Sebastian and Troy exchanged meaningful glances as they made their way to their first class. Sebastian remained absorbed in his thoughts through the duration of the lecture. The black car had darkened his mood. He was sure that Jorrit’s men were close. His hands tightened into fists and he felt anger rippling through his body.
Arielle slightly turned and checked out his profile, instinctively knowing that something tormented him. She leaned closer and tugged on his sleeve, but he was lost in thought, his expression mysterious, deadpan, and unreadable. A wave of unease coursed through her body and her throat went suddenly dry. This was worse than she thought. What in bloody hell is going on? She reached over and grasped his hand in hers, pressing her right leg tightly against his left. He then turned and, raising an eyebrow, he let his emerald eyes burn into hers, causing Arielle’s lips to purse, wondering what his expression meant. She suppressed her wild thoughts and gave him a soft smile. His lips curved with longing and her body sank as a sigh of relief escaped her lips. “Are you all right?” she whispered.
He nodded and stared into her eyes, his expression draped in apology. His hand curled around hers and his warmth enveloped her. He realized that all the negative thoughts about Jorrit’s goons were weighing him down, overwhelming his mind with an uncomfortable sensation. He needed to snap out of it. He took a deep breath, gave her a soft smile, and pressed her hand affectionately before turning and fixing his gaze on the professor standing at the podium.
Arielle had missed the last part of the chemistry lecture, but she was sure that Sebastian hadn’t heard a single word of it. Not that he needed to hear it. He knew the subject better than the professor. He had attended this type of class many times in his five hundred plus years on this planet. But she needed him to snap out of his sullen mood.
At the end of the lecture, they stayed back, waiting for the others to walk out. His intense gaze roamed over her, and his lips lifted. Her eyes narrowed. “Don’t you even think for a moment that I’m
