his foot came down, smack on top of the blueberry. âOh, no,â he groaned.
âMaybe itâs stuck to the bottom of your shoe,â said Andrew.
DJ yanked off his shoe. On the bottom was a blue blob. He showed it to Andrew. âAll weâve got is a blobby blue blueblerry,â he said.
Andrew looked at DJ and burst out laughing. âNo, weâve got a bobby blue booblerry,â he said.
DJ clutched his stomach. âOr a blobbily blue booblerry.â He and Andrew collapsed in a giggling, snorting heap.
Outside, Chrisâs whistle shrilled. âTimeâs up,â he called.
DJ scrambled to his feet. âWe havenât got a lost yet, or a found.â
Andrew frowned. âWait a minute.â He pointed to DJâs cap. âYour feather can be our found.â
âBut we still donât have a lost,â said DJ.
Chris came into the cabin. Raj and Ernie were right behind him. âDid you find everything on the list?â asked Raj.
âWe found everything except round,â said Ernie.
âWe found everything except lost,â said Andrew.
âLetâs have a look,â said Chris.
Raj held their bag open.
Ernie pulled out a smelly pinecone for old and a seedpod for new. For yellow and blue they had a mushroom with a yellow cap and half a robinâs eggshell.
âWhat do you have for rough, lost and found?â asked Chris.
Raj produced a piece of bark for rough and a snail shell for found. âAnd look what we have for lost,â he said. He held up a slim brown object. âA porcupine quill.â
âThatâs not a porcupine quill,â said Andrew. âItâs a pine needle.â
âI told you it was a pine needle,â said Ernie.
âIt still counts,â said Raj. âThe pine tree lost one of its needles.â He looked at Andrew. âLetâs see what you found.â
Andrew and DJ spread out their finds.
âI donât think we should count the squashed blueberry,â said Raj. âYou found it indoors.â
âSquashed or not, itâs still blue,â said Chris. âAnd blueberries grow in nature.â
âYou still didnât find everything on your list,â said Ernie. âSo no one won.â
While everyone was talking, DJ was using his Power-Man thinking. âWe did win!â he said. He snatched up the feather. âThis is our found and our lost,â he declared. âA bird lost the feather before we found it.â
âNo fair,â said Raj. âYou canât use one thing for both.â
âI think it is fair,â said Chris. âI didnât say you couldnât use the same item twice.â He turned to DJ and Andrew. âCongratulations, guys. You two make a good team.â
DJ and Andrew grinned and gave each other a high five.
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
G OING H OME
After breakfast the next morning, everyone packed up to go home. DJ put Sockster into his backpack extra carefully. He checked twice to be sure Sockster was safe.
Soon the buses were loaded. Chris sat beside DJ. He put his seat back and closed his eyes.
DJ pulled his journal out of his backpack.
Dear Lots-o-Fun Journal,
Weâre ready to go home. Weâre just waiting for the bus driver.
Camp Lots-o-Fun was LOTS OF FUN. I feel sad saying goodbye to Chris and the guys in my cabin. But guess what? Theyâre all coming back next summer. And we are all going to ask if we can be in the same cabin again. Even Andrew. Heâs really nice when you get to know him. And guess what elseâI got the award for the Most Fun Camper. I voted for me, and so did everyone else.
I got a postcard from my mom a couple of days ago. She said things are really quiet when Iâm not around. Iâll bet they have all been really bored. But theyâll start having fun again when I get home.
Thatâs all the news for now. Wait a minute. The driver just got on the bus. He looks
