happened.  He has seen the best and the worst of humanity.   I was completely absorbed with what he was saying, so much so that night soon turned to day.  I loved how gentle and genuine Gerrard was, there was no pretension.  He came from a long line of doctors, but for him it wasn’t about flashy cars or fancy suits, it was about being able to raise enough money to help others that desperately needed it, to make a difference for children and adults alike.
I wanted to do a piece on him for my column and asked if I could grab his number.
    “Well that depends”
    “On what”
“On whether you want my number for work or for pleasure”
    “What if I say, both”
“Then I’d say that is the perfect answer”
With a smile he wrote his number on my hand in pen.
“That’s very old fashioned of you, don’t you have a card?”
“Well this will show me how genuine you are Stephanie and how much you want to call me” he said with a smile.

I had to go, I was meeting the girls for brunch and to be honest couldn’t wait to tell them about this amazing man. I told Gerrard and he rose to open the door for me.
“Would you like me to walk you to the cafe”
I thought this kind of chivalry was only in romantic movies, but it truly did exist
    “Are you heading that way?”
“Well no, but it would be my pleasure to escort you.”
We walked out of the building together, I made and involuntary shiver, it had turned quite cold out, Gerrard slipped his overcoat off and put it around my shoulders. It smelled of him, a reminder of being in his arms last night.   I felt warm, safe, happy.  We were animated in conversation for the five blocks to the cafe, it seemed to flash by so quickly and there we were at the front entrance.
“Would you like to come in?”
half hoping he would say no, it’s impossible to talk about a gorgeous man, when the said man is sitting right there at the table
“No, I have stolen you from your friends long enough, but look forward to hearing from you soon”
We kissed goodbye and I went to give him his overcoat.
“You keep it, if you call I’ll collect it then, if not, it will be a reminder of me. Besides, it’s cold out you will catch your death and I am a doctor after all, I took an oath to look after people”
We laughed and then he ran across the street and vanished in the distance.

Tash and Lex were sitting at a table and had witnessed the whole thing, I walked in.
“Where did he come from, and does he have a brother?” asked Tash.
    “Tell all.”
I told the girls about Gerrard’s work in the UN and about what a gentleman he is and how amazing he is and …..... how he will be leaving soon.
“What, no way! this is Sleepless in Seattle all over again, you can’t let him go”
“I have his number” and showed the girls the ink on my hand.
“Girl, if I were you I’d be writing that down in a few hundred places, men like him don’t come by everyday”
    Then Lex piped up.
“He sounds all lovely and clean cut and very polite but what’s he like in bed?”
The three of us just burst out laughing and I told them a little about what a gentleman he was and how attentive he was, oh and of course a little of our evening of lust.
“Oh he sounds gorgeous - what’s the catch?”
“Is he bi; gay and having a trial with straight sex?”
“No” I said defending him, he’s just different to all those slobs you girls seem to pick up”
The three of us burst out laughing.
“Seriously he really is the full package, handsome, smart, kind and a gentleman”
“Yes, he is ….. and is leaving to go overseas again soon” piped up Lex.
With this I felt a little pang of sadness, I felt a connection with Gerrard, but didn’t I say that about George, maybe that’s what happens when you step out of the ordinariness of life and live a little.

“Hey are you okay Steph you look a little pensive”
“Sure, just a little tired, I haven’t slept and am feeling
