it happens it happens and we’ll be on our way to having a baseball team of Cahills.”
“You don’t care?”
“Nope. Anything else?”
I smile, a blissful, happy, full of life, smile. One that makes your toes curl when they meet the warm sand on the beach. The bright one that shines likes a rainbow after a rainfall. The one when you bite into a piece of chocolate after a long stressful day. And there are only three people in this world who can make me smile like this and one of them is staring at me.
“One last thing.”
Mason raises his eyebrows.
“Chocolate milk.”
He laughs and it’s the best sound in the world. My heart melts for this man. I may have had a shitty childhood, that no one deserves, but my future is and will continue to make up for that. I have everything I’ll ever need in life with Mason and the twins by my side.
Did I bite off more than I can chew? Knowing me, I probably did. I’ve been calling around all afternoon looking for a place to have our wedding. Every place I’ve called is booked. There has to be something. I bring Google back up on my phone and call the next place.
After Hailey agreed to marry me New Year’s Eve she called MacKenzie. I swear the people in fucking China could hear my sister screaming. Before I could even get a chance to call Hunter and tell him I get a text message from him that said, “I guess we’ve got plans on New Year’s?” I replied back and said it looked that way. I also asked him to be my best man. I didn’t feel right picking between my brothers. Cooper probably should have been it but to me it didn’t seem fair to Jackson.
I called both my brothers but it seems I’m a little too slow and they both already knew. They’re excited for us and, of course, Jackson had to bust my balls about it taking long enough.
“Good Afternoon Midnight Atlantic, Amanda speaking.” A pleasant voice answers the phone.
In a daze it takes me a second to realize what the hell I’m doing. I clear my throat. “Hello Amanda, my name is Mason Cahill.” I swear I hear her gasp but shake the thought away. “I was wondering if by any chance the venue is open on New Year’s Eve for a wedding. I know it’s last minute but I’m willing to pay extra.”
Amanda stutters. “Um, y-ye, yes.” She coughs. “It actually is. The wedding we had booked cancelled yesterday after the groom and bride’s sister were caught sleeping together.” She rambles on. “Sorry,” she coughs again. “too much information. I find it pretty funny. This kind of thing happens more times than you would think it would.”
I chuckle. “Well, not to sound like an asshole but I’m glad they got caught. Now I can have my wedding here and it saves that bride a hell of a lot of money and heartache.” I’m sure the bride will be bitter for some time to come but she’ll deal with it and realize that there is someone better for her out there.
Amanda giggles and then it turns into a snort. “Would you like to come in and tour our venue?”
For the next hour, Amanda and I plan our wedding. It’s going to be a perfect day for my perfect bride. And it also turns out that Amanda knew who I was, her family has season tickets for the BlueClaws . They’re huge baseball fans.
When everything is set and Amanda assures me that everything I’ve listed off will be met with satisfaction I sit back and take a deep breath and prepare myself for the next two weeks of complete chaos.
As I sit here rocking Alexis at three in the morning I realize what Hailey has been dealing with by herself when I’m not around. Alexis is babbling and cooing to herself as I try to get her back to sleep which doesn’t look like it’s happening anytime soon. Caleb is fast asleep and thankfully doesn’t allow his sister to keep him up too. Alexis brings my finger to her mouth and tries to bite down on it. She must be teething and that’s what’s keeping her awake. “Lexi,” I say pulling my hand away and
